The aim is to offer users the possibility of a new relationship with the society they live in through a process of long-term educational experiences.

Abstract
The reality in which we live has brought with it the need to review the current organisation of the education and training systems of Italian schools. This reorganisation has been discussed for a long time within the institutional landscape, but it often encounters difficulties in its implementation and the very process of transformation required for its practical definition, which involves reformulating a new relationship between education and society. What is emerging in our societies is the need not only to acquire basic skills but above all to address emerging social issues through education in terms of democratic culture, equality, acceptance, sharing and collaboration. The thesis investigated how educational tools play a fundamental role in preparing students to face the challenges of today and the future. In particular, the focus of the analysis centred on the potential of design democracy as a tool for activating participatory practices aimed at raising awareness of social coexistence and creating valuable interpersonal relationships. OpenMind Handbook is a project outcome that facilitates the implementation of new educational experiences and the development of a human approach, which focuses on social relationships between people living in the same school context or neighbourhood, increasing the sense of community and enabling the action of the educational community. Open Mind Handbook is a system of tools and processes that enable teachers to empower democracy culture in primary schools. The service is a guide that offers a methodology for guided classroom activities based on reading stories related to democratic culture issues. Listening to and manipulating words stimulates the children’s lateral thinking flow, activating free and personal creation and ideation. Reading is therefore a tool for the creation of interdisciplinary environments, for the promotion of value-based, democratic, inclusive and sustainable growth. OpenMind also provides the opportunity for schools to establish a wide network of relationships with local stakeholders- that allows them to build territorial communities attentive to the development of a shared democratic culture- and with all schools participating in the service. The schools are connected thanks to a platform and twinning through which it is possible to share educational experiences. The service-system is dynamic and evolves thanks to the users’ interactions who benefit from innovation opportunities in terms of methodology, educational activities and social relations. The main purpose of OpenMind is to offer flexible, scalable and adaptable processes that create educational environments in which users cooperate to create active communities where everyone feels participant and agent of change in a shared process. The service intends to relate to different users to implement a comparison at different levels, both from a generational and a cultural point of view. The aim is to offer users the possibility of a new relationship with the society they live in through a process of long-term educational experiences.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
