Service and user experience design : application in a sex-positive service website focusing on couple sexual exploration

The sexual sphere represents a significant aspect of well-being. Nowadays, there are increasing initiatives towards the practice of safer and more diverse sexual experiences. Still, exploring with a sex-positive mindset and openly talking about pleasure are taboo, unfamiliar, or neglected topics. But what does it mean to explore with a sex-positive perspective? How can one put in practice a more sex-positive approach both individually and in ones' relationships? Reflecting on tackling this issue in the Final Synthesis Design Studio, my team and I created Sexplore: a sex-positive service that promotes sexual exploration by offering curated content and experiences that encourage and guide the exploration of pleasure. Leveraging the work done with Sexplore, the focus of the present thesis project encloses two key goals. For one side, it aims to improve the website's User Experience by conducting User Tests and a Heuristic Evaluation. And for the other side, understanding how Sexplore can support sexual exploration and guidance for a specific target user: people in a romantic relationship. The most common type of relationship in our society is still the monogamous one, which means that most of the sexual exploration that people do in their lives nowadays is either done individually or with their chosen partner. The present research will explore how couple differentiation influences sexual behavior in long-term relationships, and it will propose strategies that can help them communicate their exploration interests effectively. Furthermore, times are changing, heterosexuality is not the rule anymore, and men and women are not the only gender identities. New types of romantic relationships are emerging, and monogamy is not the only option available to experience love and sex because open and polyamory relationships are becoming more and more popular. Humanity continues evolving, and it needs more open and tolerant products and services that support its evolution. Sexplore aims to be a Product-Service that also helps to increase awareness on the different topics regarding sexual and gender identities.

La sfera sessuale rappresenta un aspetto significativo del benessere. Al giorno d'oggi, ci sono crescenti iniziative verso la pratica di esperienze sessuali più sicure e più diversificate. Tuttavia, esplorare con una mentalità sex-positive e parlare apertamente del piacere sono argomenti tabù, non familiari o trascurati. Ma cosa significa esplorare con una prospettiva sex-positive? Come si può mettere in pratica un approccio sessuale più positivo sia individualmente che nelle proprie relazioni? Riflettendo sull'affrontare questo problema nel Final Synthesis Design Studio, io e il mio team abbiamo creato Sexplore: una piattaforma di servizi sex-positive che promuove l'esplorazione sessuale offrendo contenuti ed esperienze curati che incoraggiano e guidano l'esplorazione del piacere. Facendo leva sul lavoro svolto con Sexplore, il focus del presente progetto di tesi racchiude due obiettivi chiave. Da un lato, mira a migliorare l'esperienza utente della piattaforma conducendo test utente e una valutazione euristica. E dall'altra parte, capire come Sexplore può supportare l'esplorazione sessuale e la guida per un utente target specifico: le persone in una relazione romantica. Il tipo di relazione più comune nella nostra società è ancora quello monogamo, il che significa che la maggior parte dell'esplorazione sessuale che le persone fanno nella loro vita al giorno d'oggi viene effettuata individualmente o con il partner prescelto. La presente ricerca esplorerà come la differenziazione di coppia influenzi il comportamento sessuale nelle relazioni a lungo termine e proporrà strategie che possono aiutarli a comunicare efficacemente i loro interessi di esplorazione. Inoltre i tempi stanno cambiando, l'eterosessualità non è più la regola e uomini e donne non sono le uniche identità di genere. Stanno emergendo nuovi tipi di relazioni romantiche e la monogamia non è l'unica opzione disponibile per sperimentare l'amore e il sesso perché le relazioni aperte e poliamory stanno diventando sempre più popolari. L'umanità continua ad evolversi e ha bisogno di prodotti e servizi più aperti e tolleranti che supportino la sua evoluzione. Sexplore vuole essere un Prodotto-Servizio che aiuta anche ad aumentare la consapevolezza sui diversi temi riguardanti le identità sessuali e di genere.
