Restes dans un rest. Proposta per l'occupazione del tetto della Base sous-marine di Bordeaux

This thesis consists of a research and project work focused on the Bordeaux sous-marine base. It is a bunker built during the Second World War to house German u-boats and today partially converted into a cultural center and exhibition space. To analyze the structure, the two macro-categories of which it belongs were initially taken into consideration, namely the remains of the Second World War and the exhibition spaces that have a relationship with water. Starting from these two key points, a circular scheme was then defined on which the entire logical organization of production contained here is based. Leafing through the pages of the paper, you will first encounter an introduction to the remains of World War II in Europe: we will talk in general about their main characteristics, their geographical arrangement and the categories to which most of them belong. Later the research will focus on the Bordeaux base; the history and context in which it develops will be illustrated, but above all the current state of the building will be described in detail. This description will then be accompanied by research on the most interesting exhibition spaces in the contemporary world that have an important relationship with water, this will allow us to explore the delicate relationship with this natural element and the different ways in which it can be addressed. Finally, the information listed above will be used to develop a project to occupy a part of the bunker that is still abandoned today, i.e. the roof. This environment will come back to life with the installation of an exhibition on the remains of the Second World War, thus closing the circle we quickly mentioned earlier.

Questa tesi consiste in un lavoro di ricerca e di progetto incentrato sulla Base sous-marine di Bordeaux. Si tratta di un bunker costruito durante la seconda Guerra Mondiale per ospitare gli u-boat tedeschi e oggi in parte riconvertito in centro culturale e spazio espositivo. Per analizzare la struttura sono state prese in considerazione inizialmente le due macrocategorie di cui essa fa parte ovvero i resti della seconda guerra mondiale e gli spazi espositivi che hanno una relazione con l’acqua. A partire da questi due punti chiave è stato poi definito uno schema circolare su cui si fonda tutta l’organizzazione logica della produzione qui contenuta. Sfogliando le pagine dell'elaborato si incontrerà per prima cosa un’introduzione sui resti della seconda guerra mondiale in Europa: si parlerà in generale delle loro caratteristiche principali, la loro disposizione geografica e le categorie di cui la maggior parte di essi fanno parte. In seguito la ricerca si concentrerà sulla Base di Bordeaux; ne sarà illustrata la storia e il contesto in cui si sviluppa, ma soprattutto verrà dettagliatamente descritto lo stato odierno dell’edificio. Questa descrizione verrà poi affiancata a una ricerca sui più interessanti spazi espositivi del mondo contemporaneo che hanno un’importante relazione con l’acqua, ciò permetterà di esplorare il delicato rapporto con questo elemento naturale e le differenti maniere in cui può essere affrontato. Le informazioni sopra elencate serviranno infine a elaborare un progetto per occupare una parte del bunker che a oggi è ancora lasciata in stato di abbandono ovvero il tetto. Questo ambiente riprenderà vita con l’installazione di un’esposizione sui resti della seconda Guerra Mondiale, chiudendo così il cerchio a cui abbiamo rapidamente accennato poco fa.
