Ortighera - La piazza in quota delle valli

This thesis project wants to give voice and value to those territories that have been forgotten for too long, aiming to restore the importance they always had and still deserve. The title “Ortighera - la piazza in quota alle valli” wants to emphasise the centrality of the Alp compared to the valleys it’s surrounded by, and, on the other hand, it refers to the attempt of making the Alp the main center of a new system, no longer seen as a simple mountain pasture, but rather transformed into a cultural center that represents the history and culture of a community. Ortighera is a place where is still partly possible to recognize the alpine constructive identity of the Bergamo valleys. The buildings, although they are currently ruins, often hidden under most recent accretions, are still able to show some of the typological and constructive characteristics that they’ve been featuring for a long time. The project foresees the recovery of ancient ruins through a careful analysis on both the context and the conditions of things, by still making the intervention respectful, recognisable and by avoiding useless historical fakes. The project also aims to recover the centrality of the Alps through a new and integrated access system. The importance of the ruins becomes fundamental as it allows us to understand the difficulties of living in alpine pastures. Therefore, both a material and spiritual recovery becomes essential to give these places the value they deserve, as they represent the emblem of a long-standing community, along with its culture.

Il progetto di tesi vuole ridare spazio e valore a quei territori dimenticati per troppo tempo, ridando loro l’importanza che da sempre li ha caratterizzati. Il titolo “Ortighera - La piazza in quota delle valli” vuole da un lato sottolineare la centralità dell’alpe rispetto alle valli intorno e dall’altro vuole trasformare l’alpe nel centro di un nuovo sistema, non più inteso come semplice luogo di alpeggio, ma trasformato in un centro culturale dove potervi riconoscere la storia e la cultura di una comunità. L’Ortighera è infatti un luogo dove vi si può ancora, in parte, riconoscere l’identità costruttiva alpina delle valli bergamasche, in quanto, gli edifici, pur essendo oggi dei ruderi, riescono ugualmente a narrare, attraverso anche superfetazioni più o meno recenti, le caratteristiche tipologiche e costruttive che hanno caratterizzato questi luoghi. Il progetto prevede da un lato il recupero dei ruderi attraverso la lettura del contesto e dello stato di fatto, il rispetto del tipo edilizio, ma rendendo riconoscibile il nuovo intervento, evitando inutili falsi storici, e dall’altro il recupero della centralità dell’alpe attraverso un nuovo e integrato sistema di accessi. L’importanza dei ruderi diviene fondamentale in quanto consente di conoscere e capire le difficoltà del vivere in alpeggio, e quindi diventa doveroso un recupero non solo materiale, ma soprattutto immateriale, affinché venga dato il giusto valore a questi luoghi, emblema di una cultura e di un popolo vecchio centinaia di anni.
