Sourcing process transformation : the case of CNH industrial

In the last years, companies have directed their strategies over objectives related to the increase of process efficiency and to the resource optimization along the entire Supply chain. The process digitalization has generated new opportunities, especially in terms of higher visibility and better management of the information flow. The present thesis has the objective to investigate the potential advantages derived from the implementation of an e-sourcing system, considering the limitations as well. Specifically, the case of CNH Industrial is examined: the firm wants to achieve an effective information management, both concerning visibility and traceability. The main subject of the analysis is the pilot project managed in CNH Industrial to test the SAP Ariba system, already used in the company for the indirect materials’ sourcing. This gives the buyers the opportunity to understand the principal problematics of the as-is situation, and to define the system’s functionalities useful to bring a greater efficiency. The analysis focuses on the identification of the mandatory requirements that the platform should satisfy. At the end, it has been possible to individuate the best alternative among the applications available in the market, starting from the improvement points defined during the project.

Negli ultimi anni le aziende hanno indirizzato le proprie strategie verso obbiettivi mirati al miglioramento dell’efficienza dei processi e ottimizzazione delle risorse nell’intera Supply Chain. La digitalizzazione dei processi ha generato nuove opportunità, soprattutto in termini di maggiore visibilità e migliore gestione del flusso informativo. La presente tesi ha l’obbiettivo di indagare i potenziali vantaggi derivati dall’implementazione di un sistema di e-sourcing, considerandone i limiti. Nello specifico si considera il caso di CNH Industrial: l’azienda vuole raggiungere una più efficace gestione delle informazioni, sia dal punto di vista della visibilità, sia per quanto riguarda la tracciabilità delle stesse. Oggetto principale di analisi è il progetto pilota gestito in CNH Industrial per testare il sistema SAP Ariba, giù utilizzato in azienda per l’acquisto di materiali indiretti. Questo ha dato la possibilità ai buyers di capire effettivamente quali fossero le problematiche principali della situazione as-is, e definire le funzionalità di sistema utili a portare una maggiore efficienza. L’analisi quindi si concentra sull’identificazione dei principali requisiti che la piattaforma deve soddisfare. Sulla base dei punti di miglioramento definiti è stato possibile identificare l’alternativa migliore tra le applicazioni disponibili sul mercato.
