Architectural grafting and re-use of a ruin : new identity for Chiesa Diruta (Matera)

The Chiesa Diruta project is located in Grottole, MATERA. is a town and comune in the province of Matera, in the region of Basilicata in southern Italy. The purpose of the project is to re-use design a historic church with a long history but not completely preserved , the new function is a small concert hall. Starting from the town scale, the local historical and cultural heritage and buildings are analyzed, by creating a series of pocket public spaces around the historical buildings, a historical cultural building system is constructed, which provides new identities to these historical buildings. For the church itself, the method of grafting design is mainly used, and the space of the church is redesigned to suit the function of the concert hall. The grafting of various modern building materials highlights the contrast between the old and the new. The reused Chiesa Diruta is a pure, light, simple, and elegant building that not only retains the sense of history, but also incorporates a new identity.

Il progetto Chiesa Diruta si trova a Grottole, MATERA. è un comune della provincia di Matera, nella regione Basilicata nel sud Italia. Lo scopo del progetto è di riutilizzare il design di una chiesa storica con una lunga storia ma non del tutto conservata, la nuova funzione è una piccola sala da concerto. Partendo dalla scala cittadina, si analizzano il patrimonio storico e culturale e gli edifici locali, creando una serie di spazi pubblici tascabili attorno agli edifici storici, si costruisce un sistema edilizio storico culturale, che fornisce nuove identità a questi edifici storici. Per la chiesa stessa, viene utilizzato principalmente il metodo di progettazione dell'innesto e lo spazio della chiesa viene ridisegnato per adattarsi alla funzione della sala da concerto. L'innesto di vari materiali da costruzione moderni mette in evidenza il contrasto tra il vecchio e il nuovo. La Chiesa Diruta riutilizzata è un edificio puro, leggero, semplice ed elegante che non solo conserva il senso della storia, ma incorpora anche una nuova identità.
