In Lambrate district, there are more than 200,000m² of abandoned industrial areas that in the past were one of the important industrial hubs in the city. These areas create a void within the consolidated urban fabric of the city, bringing up social, morphological, and sometimes cultural inequalities. The Municipality of Milan has been planning actions for years to requalify these areas. The shift from a manufacturing society to a service society is the reason for the change in the image of Lambrate, leading us to the following questions: which urban planning principles should be put in place, not only to solve a spatial problem within the city but also to revive the suburbs as an example of urban resilience? which strategies and architectural concepts are required to adapt them for other contexts? This thesis intends to propose an urban and architectural level intervention for the southern abandoned industrial areas of Lambrate. The site is a conglomeration of shapes and spaces of varying sizes. Instead of demolishing and rebuilding to facilitate the inclusion of new features we are proposing to maximize the reuse of what already exists by adding the new intervention where the old and new confront each other and create an ensemble of fragments, where those fragments will be in a state of continuous interaction.

Abstract
Instead of demolishing and rebuilding to facilitate the inclusion of new features we are proposing to maximize the reuse of what already exists by adding the new intervention where the old and new confront each other and create an ensemble of fragments, where those fragments will be in a state of continuous interaction.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
