Being able to analyse, collect and interpret everything that happens in the digital world is therefore of fundamental importance for researchers and scholars in the social sciences. Analyzing, collecting, and interpreting the material shared and the interactions between users online becomes essential for researchers in the social sciences, journalists, and media scholars.Nowadays, several techniques and tools exist for collecting, analyzing, and visualizing data related to the digital world, but they present a series of critical issues. Data collection methods are often experimental and ephemeral as they develop in tandem with the conditions of the medium. In addition, there is a great deal of heterogeneity in how data collection and analysis methods are communicated, often resulting in confusion or incompleteness. In conclusion, there is no system for collecting, categorizing, compiling, and sharing these techniques.Therefore, it is essential to investigate how data collection and analysis techniques are disseminated among researchers and explore the most effective communication strategies for sharing them. This thesis offers a solution to this problem by creating a modular, structured platform to maximize the understanding, sharing, and building of techniques for data collection, analysis, and visualization in digital research. Thus, Digital Methods Toolbox brings its contribution to the field of social research with the web by promoting new ways through which researchers can present and share data collection and analysis techniques in an accessible, usable and shareable way. It is therefore essential to investigate what the techniques are, how they are disseminated and what is the best possible way to disseminate them. Furthermore, to have a complete understanding of the topic, it is important to understand how to provide the most suitable tools for each need. This thesis is concerned with finding an answer to these questions through the creation of a modular and structured platform to maximise the understanding, sharing and building of techniques for data collection, analysis and visualisation. Digital Methods Toolbox brings its contribution to the field of social research with the web: specifically in the way in which users are enabled to present techniques and methods in an easily usable and shareable way.
Nella società di oggi le piattaforme web di creazione e condivisione di contenuti rivestono una grande importanza nei processi di comunicazione. Poter analizzare, raccogliere e interpretare il materiale condiviso e le interazioni tra utenti online diventa quindi fondamentale per ricercatori nell’ambito delle scienze sociali, giornalisti e studiosi dei mezzi di comunicazione. Ad oggi esistono diverse tecniche e strumenti per la raccolta, analisi e visualizzazione dei dati relativi al mondo digitale, ma presentano una serie di criticità. I metodi di raccolta dei dati sono spesso sperimentali ed effimeri, perché si sviluppano in tandem con le condizioni del mezzo. Inoltre, si nota una grande eterogeneità nel modo in cui i metodi di raccolta e analisi dei dati sono comunicati spesso risultando confusi o incompleti. In conclusione, non esiste un sistema di raccolta, categorizzazione,compilazione e condivisione di queste tecniche. È fondamentale pertanto indagare su come le tecniche di raccolta e analisi dei dati online vengono diffuse tra ricercatori, e su quali siano le strategie di comunicazione più efficaci per condividerle. Questa tesi si occupa di trovare una risposta a queste domande attraverso la realizzazione di una piattaforma modulare e strutturata per massimizzare la comprensione, condivisione e costruzione di tecniche per la raccolta, analisi e visualizzazione dei dati, nell’ambito della ricerca digitale. Digital Methods Toolbox porta il suo contributo nel campo della ricerca sociale con il web promuovendo delle nuove modalità attraverso cui i ricercatori possono presentare e condividere tecniche di raccolta e analisi dei dati in un modo facilmente fruibile e condivisibile.
