In and out - Planning and design of the "ghettoization areas" in Pregassona and Molino Nuovo (Lugano, CH)

Lugano is a rich city in Switzerland, and most of the citizens live a prosperous life there. However, just as there are dark corners where even the light does not shine, there are also people in this city who live in bad conditions as ghetto, lacking public spaces to interact with people, living their days in poverty, crime and noise. In order for people in ghettoisation areas to enjoy the same living rights as others, we need to replan these areas. Not only does the interior of the neighbourhood need to be renovated, but also the city's rich public resources outside the neighborhood need to be utilised. This is where the title of our graduation project 'IN and OUT' comes from, identifying the problems of the site from both the inside (IN) and the outside (OUT) of the neighbourhood; And then, the issues will be solved by renovating the neighbourhood itself (IN) and combining with external public resources (OUT); Finally the neighbourhood (IN) and the external public space (OUT) are connected together.

Lugano è una ricca città della Svizzera e la maggior parte dei cittadini vive una vita prospera. Tuttavia, così come ci sono angoli bui dove non brilla nemmeno la luce, ci sono anche persone in questa città che vivono in cattive condizioni come il ghetto, senza spazi pubblici per interagire con la gente, vivendo le loro giornate in povertà, criminalità e rumore. Affinché le persone nelle zone di ghettizzazione possano godere degli stessi diritti di vita degli altri, è necessario ripianificare queste zone. Non solo l'interno del quartiere deve essere rinnovato, ma anche le ricche risorse pubbliche della città al di fuori del quartiere devono essere utilizzate. È da qui che nasce il titolo del nostro progetto di laurea 'IN and OUT', identificando i problemi del sito sia dall'interno (IN) che dall'esterno (OUT) del quartiere; E poi, i problemi saranno risolti rinnovando il quartiere stesso (IN) e combinandoli con risorse pubbliche esterne (OUT); Infine il quartiere (IN) e lo spazio pubblico esterno (OUT) sono collegati insieme.
