Heden. Ipotesi di riqualificazione dei capannoni Innocenti-Maserati

The diffusion of abandoned buildings is a wide topic in Italy and concerns different architectural structures, including the industrial ones. The history of a building and the transformations occurred after its disposal may suggest new ways of intervention for reuse projects, creating unique spaces. Heden is the reuse project of the former Innocenti-Maserati sheds in Milan, whose concept is based on the architecture industrial past and on the vegetation grown inside the building after the abandon. Thus was born a relax factory that offers an experience of total escape in a widespread spa inside a botanical garden. The spa and wellness sector has a thousand-year history. In this third volume we will deepen the discourse that starts from its origin with the “cult of water”, which has developed in many people worldwide in different ways: from the traditional Roman baths, to the Japanese Onsen or saunas in northern Europe. Then, we will see how throughout the centuries the well-being and all its forms have evolved, making a focus also on the distinction between the spaces in the city and those present in nature, to arrive then at the end of the ‘900 with the emergence of the meaning of “wellness”. After studying a survey of some of the most important examples of wellness centers that arose after 1996, the year of the construction of the Vals spa, a case study that has revolutionized the world of spas, we will arrive at the design of the Heden spa. This will be the summary example of the main features that characterize today’s spas: customization and attention to customer needs that will lead to a wide range of functions, a strong integration of technology, both in the management of the spaces and in the treatments proposed, and an aesthetic that will combine an industrial style with a more natural one. These elements will be contained in small pavilions spread in the middle of nature, another fundamental focus of the well-being of recent years, especially after the outbreak of the Pandemic.

La diffusione di edifici abbandonati costituisce un’estesa problematica in Italia e riguarda differenti tipologie architettoniche, tra cui quella industriale. La storia di un edificio e le trasformazioni avvenute in seguito alla dismissione possono suggerire nuove modalità per gli interventi di riuso, attribuendo unicità agli spazi. Heden è il progetto di rifunzionalizzazione dei capannoni Innocenti-Maserati a Milano, il cui concept si basa sul passato industriale dell’architettura e sulla vegetazione sorta all’interno del fabbricato in seguito all’abbandono. Nasce così una fabbrica del relax che offre un’esperienza di totale evasione in una spa diffusa in un giardino botanico. Il settore delle spa e dei centri benessere si vanta di una storia millenaria. In questo terzo volume verrà approfondito un discorso che parte sin dalla loro origine con il “culto dell’acqua”, che si è sviluppato in numerosi popoli nel mondo in differenti modi: dalle tradizionali terme dei romani, agli onsen giapponesi oppure le saune in nord Europa. Si vedrà poi come nel corso dei secoli il benessere e le sue forme si sono evoluti, ponendo un focus anche sulla distinzione fra gli spazi presenti in città e quelli in natura, per arrivare poi, soltanto alla fine del ‘900 all’accezione di “wellness”. In seguito ad un’indagine su alcuni dei più importanti esempi di centri benessere sorti dopo il 1996, anno della realizzazione delle terme di Vals, caso studio che ha rivoluzionato il mondo delle spa, si arriverà alla progettazione della spa Heden. Questa sarà l’esempio riassuntivo delle principali caratteristiche che accomunano le spa odierne: la personalizzazione e cura alle necessità del cliente che porterà ad avere una vasta gamma di funzioni, una forte integrazione della tecnologia, sia nella gestione degli spazi che nei trattamenti proposti, e un’estetica che coniugherà uno stile industriale con uno più naturale. Questi elementi verranno racchiusi all’interno di piccoli padiglioni diffusi in mezzo alla natura, altro fondamentale focus del benessere degli ultimi anni, soprattutto in seguito allo scoppio della pandemia.
