Many territorial fragilities can be visible along the italian highways, the part in the happenings where some important phenomenas or abandonment take place as a result of an environmental, economical, social or architectural decay in this large part of the country from north to south. A7 Highway, connecting Milano to Genoa, is a fragile territory focused on in the framework of this project because of its vulnerable and delicate quality that can be easily broken or damaged. Several service or rest areas existing on this highway can be converted into a node of attraction for the travelers and residents from the surrounding villages becoming certainly utilitarian, and providing much-needed facilities in places, often creating a dialogue between visitors and the location while serving basic needs. The rest area chosen specifically is in Valle Scrivia along A7 highway with a key transformation objective to provide interesting and engaging architecture, and allow drivers to stop for rest by offering a temporary retreat away from the highway with an access to the surrounding natural environment by either a visual approach towards the area’s beautiful scenery or physical approach to the riverside in the valley through different means of transportation on a bridge connecting the rest area with the train station located on the other side of the valley. This encourages intermodality with a more sustainable mobility interchange while recovering the human-nature connection. The aim to transform a non-place into a landmark, a place for pause, rest and reflection.

Abstract
The aim to transform a non-place into a landmark, a place for pause, rest and reflection.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
