Rehabiting the village of Tignale is a clear mission statement to the contemporary needs of small towns. Once again mankind becomes central in the project in the territory, becoming part for enhancing these places. The olive tree landscape is the manifestation of the genius loci, a formal synthesis embodied in the stones of the village and in the actions of its inhabitants. The historical and cultural context of Tignale is made fragile by the exploitation of the land for commercial purposes. This approach has made small Italian villages prey to an economic system largely dedicated to profit, reducing places to mere environments of speculation. This thesis investigates how the relationship between local people and tourists, can generate new development dynamics for villages when integrated with an interdisciplinary and site-specific design network. The land behind the cliff encloses, together with other landscape elements, the frames of meaning within which this research moves. The olive tree is the chosen element to interpret the landscape from a critical perspective, with the intention of bringing to light buried traces that can establish a dialogue with contemporaneity. The element able to generate the different project actions is the Experience: activities and events addressing visitors and local communities, with a conscious use of the territory as their main protagonist, will be the driving force behind Tignale's regeneration. Each part of the system draws its reasons from signs and information hidden in the territory and is based on the mutual exchange between the place and the visitors, in which both parties are actively involved in the construction of the physical and cultural experience. The project strategy is designed to be a modus operandi applicable to any similar case. For this reason, it is composed of both structural interventions, fundamental for the successful reactivation of the area, and complementary interventions to better adapt to the needs of the place. The cultural centre project is the fulcrum from which the aforementioned path unravels, where the local community and tourists actively coexist in the activities accommodated in its spaces. The structure is a completion of the historic village and a reference point for the inhabitants, both permanent and temporary; as well as a space hosting events of sovralocal interest. The possible architectural interventions, spread throughout the area, are based on the shared concept of enhancing the places in order to strengthen their collective sense, directly generating new opportunities also in the sphere of conscious tourism.

Abstract
The possible architectural interventions, spread throughout the area, are based on the shared concept of enhancing the places in order to strengthen their collective sense, directly generating new opportunities also in the sphere of conscious tourism.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
