Models result fully validated, but, in some cases, models have room for improvement in order to find a better agreement with measurements, i.e. the THD prediction of the blocked voice coil. A better hysteresis model for the polar plates steel or a 3D approach should be taken, but would further increase computational times making these model not suitable for quick evaluations during pre-design phase.

Abstract
Finite element method (FEM) is becoming an increasingly powerful tool in transducer design process. The design of a high quality loudspeaker is not an easy task and requires to take into account many different factors. A trial and error approach is not an appropriate method for time and cost reasons. In this work i present different 2D FEM models suitable for design, optimization and analysis of moving-coil loudspeaker motors. In particular, it is given a more in depth look at the main non-linear distortion causes related to the electro-mechanical transduction and electro-magnetic features. Furthermore, the influence of the magnetic circuit geometrical tolerances on the loudspeaker performances is investigated. I used COMSOL Multiphysics® to set up the numerical models which are processed in MATLAB®. Simulations have been then validated with the aid of different measurement setups. A novel measurement technique have been introduced for evaluating the current harmonic distortion in the blocked voice coil. Models result fully validated, but, in some cases, models have room for improvement in order to find a better agreement with measurements, i.e. the THD prediction of the blocked voice coil. A better hysteresis model for the polar plates steel or a 3D approach should be taken, but would further increase computational times making these model not suitable for quick evaluations during pre-design phase.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
