Informal is the new normal : Dakar re-generation Verte

The Informal is the new normal: DAKAR RE-Génération Verte. Dakar green regeneration project gives a look into the functioning as a city and its impact. The informal settlement though rampant across the city, are not lacking in terms of structure but the services and living conditions are in need of improvements. Based on the 2035 land use map suggested by the Dakar government the rigid zoning and the risk it currently poses would be mitigated. IMM METHODOLOGY was used to analyze the selected global and intermediate scale, the results of the analysis were used in identifying the weak area. The key category performance and results of the indicators facilitated the arriving at Ordering the design principles in a systematic fashion. The results of urban analysis carried out in parallel gave an insight into problems that needs to be addressed to boost up the performance of the city in all its complexities. Using the ordering of the design principles helps better focus on the urban system as a whole. The first phase project is carrying out preliminary and detailed analysis of the city as a complex system. Followed by addressing the results using the design ordering principle where the intervention takes place on the global and the identified local scale. The intervention is based upon the strategies and corresponding actions. Out of the five essential systems that govern the complex functioning of the city and determines the living conditions of the residents in it, the water and mobility systems which were found to be critical through our analysis is addressed in the global scale and the other systems along with water and mobility is addressed detailly in the local scale. Strategies are proposed mainly in answer to the structurally influenceable problems and a few non-structural ones within our project scope. The goals of the strategies are to solve the system shortcomings by applying actions to make the living condition better through reduction of risks, increasing walkability, creation of green voids and introducing practices to strengthen the urban system through sustainable actions. In the local scale few area were identified to carry out the same. As a focus of our intervention, we have proposed a sustainable social housing prototype that could replicated with ease and efficiency and strategies to address the food system. Upon the completion of the intervention phase, the retrofitting phases follows. In which the IMM methodology is once again employed to only elements that are altered through the intervention phase. Thus, we have a measure of the scope and influence our intervention strategies have on the complexity of the city systems. This phase indicates the performance of the now retrofitted city. The strategies and actions proposed though are on the basis of the design ordering principles, it also strongly takes into consideration the UN sustainable development goals.

L'Informale è la nuova normalità: DAKAR RE-Génération Verte. Il progetto di rigenerazione verde di Dakar offre uno sguardo sul funzionamento come città e sul suo impatto. L'insediamento informale seppur dilagante in tutta la città, non mancano in termini di struttura ma i servizi e le condizioni di vita necessitano di miglioramenti. Sulla base della mappa dell'uso del suolo del 2035 suggerita dal governo di Dakar, la rigida zonizzazione e il rischio che attualmente pone sarebbero mitigati. La METODOLOGIA IMM è stata utilizzata per analizzare la scala globale e intermedia selezionata, i risultati dell'analisi sono stati utilizzati per identificare l'area debole. Le prestazioni chiave della categoria e i risultati degli indicatori hanno facilitato l'arrivo a ordinare i principi di progettazione in modo sistematico. I risultati dell'analisi urbana condotta in parallelo hanno dato un'idea dei problemi che devono essere affrontati per migliorare le prestazioni della città in tutte le sue complessità.L'utilizzo dell'ordinamento dei principi di progettazione aiuta a concentrarsi meglio sul sistema urbano nel suo complesso. La prima fase del progetto sta effettuando un'analisi preliminare e dettagliata della città come sistema complesso. Seguito dall'affrontare i risultati utilizzando il principio di ordinamento della progettazione in cui l'intervento avviene sulla scala globale e locale identificata. L'intervento si basa sulle strategie e sulle azioni corrispondenti.Dei cinque sistemi essenziali che governano il complesso funzionamento della città e determinano le condizioni di vita dei residenti in essa, i sistemi idrici e di mobilità che sono risultati critici attraverso la nostra analisi sono affrontati su scala globale e gli altri sistemi insieme all'acqua e alla mobilità sono affrontati in dettaglio su scala locale. Le strategie sono proposte principalmente in risposta ai problemi strutturalmente influenzabili e ad alcuni problemi non strutturali nell'ambito del nostro progetto. Gli obiettivi delle strategie sono quelli di risolvere le carenze del sistema applicando azioni per migliorare la condizione di vita attraverso la riduzione dei rischi, l'aumento della pedonabilità, la creazione di vuoti verdi e l'introduzione di pratiche per rafforzare il sistema urbano attraverso azioni sostenibili. Nella scala locale sono state identificate poche aree per eseguire lo stesso. Come focus del nostro intervento, abbiamo proposto un prototipo di social housing sostenibile che potrebbe replicarsi con facilità ed efficienza e strategie per affrontare il sistema alimentare. Al termine della fase di intervento, seguono le fasi di retrofitting. In cui la metodologia IMM viene ancora una volta impiegata solo per elementi che vengono alterati attraverso la fase di intervento.Pertanto, abbiamo una misura della portata e dell'influenza che le nostre strategie di intervento hanno sulla complessità dei sistemi urbani. Questa fase indica le prestazioni della città ora ristrutturata. Le strategie e le azioni proposte, tuttavia, sono sulla base dei principi di ordinamento del design, ma tengono anche fortemente in considerazione gli obiettivi di sviluppo sostenibile delle Nazioni Unite.
