This thesis proposes a design solution for an innovative workspace dedicated to music professionals. In particular, it focuses on the design of music production rooms, taking inspiration from the features of acoustic materials. Starting from the analysis of the specific needs of music productions and changes occurring in the music industry, which have been recently accelerated by COVID-19 pandemic, the thesis delves deep into the design of workplaces for musicians, and in particular music producers, also thanks to the exploration of some case studies. Based on research results, an interior design solution is proposed for a building located in the Bovisa area of the city of Milan. The solution consists of an activity-based workplace, including the music production area that is developed into detail in the thesis. Such area is made of three production rooms, each one characterized by a different style in accordance to a specific music genre, and a shared recording room that connects all of them. The design of each room is inspired in particular by a specific acoustic material that here plays the role of design driver: felt for rock music, with a dark atmosphere and neon lights; clay for classic music and a retro feeling; and moss for pop music with a modern and colored style. The idea behind this choice is to offer musicians an immersive experience, taking advantage at the same time of a professional equipment and an inspiring workplace.
