Study of technical methods and their economic feasibility to increase hosting capacity

The increased growth rate of distributed generation has caused paying more attention to the concept of hosting capacity which is the limit where we can install distributed generation without violating operational criteria of the distribution network. Calculation of hosting capacity has its own complexities but it is necessary to recognize the limitations of the network. Three technical methods which include installing on-load tap changers, changing the power line conductor and installing STATCOMs are presented in this thesis to increase the hosting capacity in addition to their economic feasibility.

L'aumento del tasso di crescita della generazione distribuita ha comportato una maggiore attenzione al concetto di hosting capacity che è il limite di installazione della generazione distribuita senza violare i criteri di funzionamento della rete di distribuzione. Il calcolo della hosting capacity ha le sue complessità ma è necessario per riconoscere i limiti della rete. In questa tesi vengono presentati tre metodi tecnici che includono l'installazione di commutatori sotto carico, la sostituzione del conduttore e l'installazione di STATCOM per aumentare la hosting capacity oltre alla loro fattibilità economica.
