This analysis gathers information on the relationship between Preferential Trade Agreements (PTAs) on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) using dozens of studies to consider the role of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa FTA in attracting foreign investments into COMESA member states. The economic, geographical and demographical characteristics of each COMESA member state are studied to assess what could be the resulting impact on the block. Consistent with the literature, the study points to the direction that COMESA positively impacted FDI in the group, but the effects are not evenly distributed.
