Family offices : a systematic literature review

Family offices are gaining importance as the number of high and ultra-high net worth individuals are rising globally. Still, research on the topic remains scarce and scattered. By analysing 30 scientific papers with a systematic literature review, we examine the existing knowledge on family offices. Based on these results, we provide a conceptual framework which summarises the seven family office macro-themes identified in the literature, the relationships among them, and each one’s subtopics. In this way, this paper sheds light on the family office-related themes which have been studied so far and points out those areas which remain unexplored to drive researchers’ attention towards them.

I family office stanno acquisendo importanza poiché il numero di individui con un patrimonio netto elevato e ultra elevato è in aumento a livello globale. Tuttavia, la ricerca sull'argomento rimane scarsa e dispersa. Analizzando 30 articoli scientifici con una revisione sistematica della letteratura, esaminiamo le conoscenze esistenti sui family office. Sulla base di questi risultati, forniamo un quadro concettuale che riassume i sette macro-temi del family office identificati in letteratura, le relazioni tra di loro e i sottotemi di ciascuno. In questo modo, questo articolo mette in luce i temi legati al family office che sono stati studiati finora e indica quelle aree che rimangono inesplorate per attirare l'attenzione dei ricercatori su di esse.
