We are increasingly feeling the disastrous changes to our planet: air pollution, rising temperatures, loss of biodiversity and exploitation of limited resources. These are only part of the consequences that we are living and we hearing about every day. This thesis was born in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, that inspired a reflection about the relationship between humans and the environment. The lockdown measures have had a significant impact on the health of the Planet: in only one year, greenhouse gas emissions decreased by around 7% compared to the average level prior to the pandemic, emphasizing the ecosystems' interconnection. We could see the reaction of animals and plants in relation to a lesser human invasion, which meant the opportunity for them to occupy new spaces: in other words, better conditions for the regeneration of the habitats. This shows the need to address environmental challenges, in particular the importance of developing a harmonious relationship between humans and nature from early childhood. Starting from the research question "How to transmit environmental issues to children?", this research is intended to consider the determining criteria for an efficient environmental communication. The learning processes, the status quo of the implementation of Education for Sustainable Development, and the related educational tools are fundamental parts of the research. In addition, it is intended to highlight the contribution of communication design to the society in the production of environmental culture. In particular, the focus is on periodical publishing directed to children, analyzed from an historical point of view and especially in relation to the contemporary scenario. Final aim: the design of an artifactual system of environmental communication addressed to the young school-age audiences. A magazine is the main artifact of the system since it is considered a suitable media that fosters exploration and curiosity. Education that is generative of a watchful eye, that "sees" what lives around us and takes care of it.
In particolare, il focus è posto sull’editoria periodica rivolta all’infanzia, analizzata storicamente e specialmente in relazione allo scenario attuale.

Abstract
Education that is generative of a watchful eye, that "sees" what lives around us and takes care of it.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
