Memorie di un'antica dogana sull'Adige. Progetto di riqualificazione e ampliamento del complesso doganale di San Fermo a Verona

Water, Art and Memories are the key words related to the Adige river, where a space for relationships is created. This project is aimed to renovate the ward of Filippini, an important urban place that in the contemporary Era fell into disuse. Such neighborhood is known in Italian culture as "Rione" and it represents a district with a inner cultural meaning. Contrary to the present, in the old days the district of Filippini was extremely famous for foreign commercial sales. The scope of this study is to build a new urban location both to promote the gathering of a community and to expose the magnificence of Arts. The notorious customs complex, constructed in the 1700s, is the object of such redevelopment and improvement. Nowadays, partly it is used for the offices of architectural goods and the other area is not used. This project is composed of specific topics with the purpose of renovating current areas, expanding existing parts and deploying a new environment. The goal pursued is to design a place to display historical and archeological goods, in other words, this project is intended to draw a room for shows and visual arts. The ancient urban set-up of the neighborhood of Filippini was taken into consideration while developing this project and, therefore, the compact configuration of the river fronts is reflected in these pages. The ancient structure of the ward of Filippini is so restored. To conclude, it can be strongly affirmed that the project scope is identified in preserving and enhancing the landmark buildings of this place by installing new local places that permit to restore and value the connection with the past urban bond.

Acqua, arte e memoria. Un nuovo spazio di relazioni sulla sponda dell’Adige. Il progetto si pone l’obiettivo di riqualificare l’ormai dimenticato Rione Filippini dando vita a un nuovo polo urbano, che possa fungere sia da luogo espositivo per le arti che da luogo di incontro per la collettività. L’intervento prevede l’ampliamento del complesso doganale settecentesco che, in passato fulcro di traffici commerciali europei, è attualmente utilizzato come sede degli uffici della Soprintendenza per i Beni Architettonici e in parte inutilizzato. In forte relazione con il complesso doganale preesistente sono stati concepiti gli interventi puntuali che formano il presente progetto. Gli stessi si pongono il triplice obiettivo di ampliare le parti esistenti, riqualificare il contesto presente, e, nel mentre, integrarlo con il nuovo, rispondendo così a diverse necessità: uno spazio per l’archiviazione ed esposizione dei materiali storici e archeologici, un luogo freddo dedicato alle esposizioni d’arte temporanee e un ambiente dedicato allo spettacolo e alle arti visive. Le scelte effettuate rispecchiano la tipica configurazione compatta dei fronti sull’Adige e colmano l’inconsueto vuoto urbano, ripristinando così l’antico assetto del rione. L’intento progettuale è quello di preservare gli edifici simbolo di questo luogo, generando nuove relazioni spaziali e sociali attraverso la realizzazione di luoghi in grado di ricucire il rapporto con il tessuto urbano antico.
