Emotional robots act as the key that can unlock deeper and more remarkable interactions between humans and robots. Their capabilities in mimicking biological reactions and expressions can bring them closer to people. The ways in which these robots can communicate are mainly defined by their design and how they can be manipulated. Their physical characteristics are typically what can be exploited to achieve the previously mentioned objective. This paper illustrates how a Japanese artwork inspired the creation and development of an interactive bio-inspired robot based on Arduino. The application wanted to discover how a ghostly lantern robot could express Ekman's basic emotions while being constrained by an unusual shape and complicated kinematics. Movements, lights, and voice lines were selected as the main features to try and achieve satisfying interactions with people. A final experiment was set up to collect some data that could be used to highlight whether the very first iteration of this project was successful or not. The most significant suggestions were taken into account to point out future improvements.

Abstract
The most significant suggestions were taken into account to point out future improvements.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
