Acque urbane. Verso un approccio progettuale e sociale alla materia

Why water and why Milan? In addition to an awareness of what water is, seen as matter and an element detached from any kind of context, the focus will be on the role it assumes in the moment it relates to a component, context, action, sensation. The aim is to try to crystallise those precious moments, which water gives us everyday, and amplify them, underline them, write them in bold to give more awareness in those who use it. The moments we talk about range from the simplest and clearest gestures, to the most latent, off-screen gestures, relating to silent situations. As just explained, the intention is to try to understand the thousand facets and infinite behaviours that the material water has, trivially related to something else. Indeed, the relationship arises from an encounter and the encounter encompasses the presence of two or more entities that either mix or reject each other. If we were to select the best place in which a large number of exchanges and relationships take place, the city is the most appropriate setting to support this argument. Therefore, the research will first achieve a sharp overview of water, touching the widest possible variety of aspects and examples to create the foundations for a specific and in-depth analysis focusing on the capital of Lombardy. Thus, interest will be shifted to architectures, design projects and the arts that have taken the aforementioned lifeblood into account in their conception and have given them a strong identity and connection to the place. Secondly, we will discuss how Milan has been lucky enough to be born, develop and blend with water, starting from its location, its roots, its subsoil, its fountains. The entire path will end with design declinations that will seek a new way of doing something that already exists, but which can be improved, taking into account the context in which they will be located. They will be projects of different calibre, which will try to take into consideration the current environmental situation with a critical look, with ethical and political positions, as we witness the continuous change of the environment that hosts us each day. We live in a time where long periods of drought alternate with occasional, but heavy rainfall, which is why we should be educated from an early age about the approach to water resources. Those involved in the project world, who actively influence the development of the fabric of the city and the habits of the citizens themselves, from the largest to the smallest scale, must consciously take a stand regarding the importance of where they are and try to inhibit, through simple gestures, wrong future choices, while keeping a fixed eye on what is happening in the present.

Perché l’acqua e perché Milano. Oltre ad una presa di coscienza di che cosa sia l’acqua, intesa come materia ed elemento avulso da qualsiasi tipo di contesto, l’attenzione verterà sul ruolo che essa assume nell’istante in cui si relaziona con un componente, contesto, azione, sensazione. Il tentativo è quello di cercare di cristallizzare quei momenti preziosi, che l’acqua quotidianamente ci dona, ed amplificarli, sottolinearli, scriverli in grassetto per donare più consapevolezza in chi ne fa uso. Gli attimi di cui parliamo spaziano dai gesti più semplici e limpidi, ai gesti più latenti, fuori campo, relativi a situazioni silenziose. Come appena espresso, l’intento è cercare di capire le mille sfaccettature e gli infiniti comportamenti che la materia acqua possiede, rapportati banalmente a qualcos’altro. Del resto, il rapporto nasce da un incontro e l’incontro racchiude in sé la presenza di due o più enti che si mischiano, oppure si respingono. Se dovessimo selezionare il luogo migliore nel quale avvengono un elevato numero di scambi e relazioni, la città rappresenta la scenografia più appropriata per supportare questo ragionamento. Pertanto, la ricerca raggiungerà inizialmente una chiara visione d’insieme sulle acque, toccando la più ampia varietà di aspetti ed esempi possibili che creino le fondamenta per un’analisi specifica e approfondita che focalizzi la sua attenzione sul capoluogo lombardo. Dunque, l’interesse verrà spostato su architetture, progetti di design e arti che in fase di ideazione e hanno tenuto conto della suddetta linfa vitale, conferendo loro una forte identità ed un forte legame con il luogo. In secondo istanza, si parlerà di come Milano abbia avuto la fortuna di nascere, svilupparsi ed integrarsi con l’acqua, a partire dalla sua collocazione, le sue radici, il suo sottosuolo, le sue fontane. L’intero percorso terminerà con declinazioni progettuali che cercheranno un nuovo modo di fare qualcosa di già esistente, ma che può essere migliorato, tenendo conto del contesto in cui verranno ubicate. Saranno progetti di diversa caratura, che cercheranno di tenere in considerazione la situazione ambientale attuale con uno sguardo critico, con posizioni etiche e politiche, dato che quotidianamente assistiamo al continuo mutamento dell’ambiente che ci ospita. Viviamo in un periodo dove lunghi periodi di siccità si alternano a piogge occasionali, ma di grande spessore, motivo per cui bisognerebbe essere educati fin da bambini verso l’approccio alla risorsa acqua. Gli addetti ai lavori nel mondo del progetto, che in maniera attiva influiscono sullo sviluppo del tessuto cittadino e sulle abitudini dei cittadini stessi, dalla scala più grande a quella più piccola, devono consapevolmente prendere una posizione riguardo all’importanza del luogo in cui si trovano e cercare di inibire, tramite gesti semplici, scelte future sbagliate, mantenendo un occhio fisso su cosa accade nel presente.
