Visioni velate : la figura del velo tra occultamento e rivelazione

The presence of a veil implies that of two fundamental aspects in a relation of mutual opposition. The veil is a medium that interposes itself between the observing subject and the object, covering it and at the same time allowing its nature to be perceived. Despite the fact that in the common imaginary the veil is often associated with a lightweight, thin and above all semi-transparent material, the research will analyse veils of a different nature, starting from the assumption that any covering can potentially become a veil, as soon as it suggests the presence of an underlying object. In this sense, the twofold role of veiling is investigated through the analysis of several case studies, each of which brings to light different meanings. The aim is to apply the concept of veiling to different types of covering, and to investigate the extent to which the very materiality, physicality of the veil and its context of reference influence the perception of the covered object.

La presenza stessa di un velo implica quella di due aspetti fondamentali in relazione di reciproca opposizione. Il velo è medium che si interpone tra soggetto osservante e oggetto, coprendolo e allo stesso tempo lasciandone intuire la natura. Nonostante nell’immaginario comune il velo sia spesso associato ad un materiale leggero, fine e soprattutto semitrasparente, la ricerca si occuperà di analizzare velature di differente natura, partendo dall’assunto che una qualsiasi copertura possa potenzialmente diventare un velo, nel momento in cui ha la capacità di far intuire l’oggetto sottostante. In questo senso, il duplice ruolo della velatura viene indagato attraverso l’analisi di diversi casi studio, ognuno dei quali porta alla luce significati differenti. L’obiettivo è quello di verificare l’applicabilità del concetto di velo a diverse tipologie di copertura, e di indagare in che misura la stessa materialità, fisicità del velo ed il suo contesto di riferimento influenzino la percezione dell’oggetto coperto.
