The aim of the following thesis is to enhance the vernacular architecture of Moldova through the study of its traditional houses, analysing the village of Butuceni, which is part of the "Orheiul Vechi" Natural Cultural Park, which has been proposed as a Unesco site in 2017. The study concerns the traditional houses built in rural villages between the second half of the 19th century and the 20th century, analysing their typological and compositional characteristics, construction techniques, decorations and the associated traditions. The contribution of the thesis then focuses on supporting the Unesco candidacy through the creation of some useful tools for the analysis of the vernacular architectural heritage, its maintenance and development. The first tool is a census schedule of buildings with cultural value, thanks to which it is possible to record the typological characteristics of the buildings and carry out an initial investigation regarding their state of conservation, which could also provide a valid tool for monitoring the building over time. Given the absence of local building regulations, the second tool aims to provide a set of guidelines for the conservation of historic buildings, their renovation, the addition of extensions and suggestions for the construction of new buildings. Finally, an attempt is made to put the proposed tools into practice through two projects, the first concerning the recovery of a traditional building while the second is the construction of a new building. The recovery of the traditional building aims to preserve the intact parts of the building and replace and renovate those that are damaged. The design approach involves the use of traditional construction techniques and materials, so that along with the building, the local craftsmen's construction skills are also preserved. At the same time, the renovation also aims to adapt the building to the modern living requirements, by reorganising the interior spaces and improving the technical capabilities with elements compatible with the architectural features of the building. The second project involves the construction of a new building that fits harmoniously into the historical context of the village, interpreting the local architectural features. The aim of the project is to determine a new housing typology that represents a synthesis of the local architectural features and develops a new way of living and interacting with the rural landscape.

Abstract
The aim of the project is to determine a new housing typology that represents a synthesis of the local architectural features and develops a new way of living and interacting with the rural landscape.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
