The requalification project of the Panorâmico de Monsanto, abandoned architectural scrap in the hearth of Forest Park of Monsanto (Lisbon-PT), is based on a dialogue between history and contemporary needs, a complete revaluation presented as an exhibition and creative space. The thesis alternates between philosophy and project, history and innovative investigation. The development of the thesis starts with a detailed analysis of the history of Panorâmico de Monsanto: its birth and its disuse, studying in particular the relationship with the surrounding area. And then, its fast and inexorable collapse which, however, has known an unexpected mutation during the 2000’s when the site paradoxically became a space of leisure and freedom. Subsequently, the thesis offers a deep research, also through case studies, about the real and abstract theory of abandoned spaces read in a semantic way. What brought them into concrete skeletons, although the human efforts, the costs, the calculations, the materials that have been changed by time and neglected into gray, useless piles. Why don’t we dazzle in front of these urban voids? And yet, they suffer, they tell us something through their hisses, noises, frictions. It is exactly from these particularities that my thesis bases its main topic: the uniqueness of this abandoned architecture that, unlike others, has been spontaneously transformed by the visitors into a free, creative space, where to find not only urban art of the local artists, but also exhibitions, museums and events. Hence, from this main feature of the Panorâmico, my thesis carries out an exhibition and cultural project, offering a faithful restoration of the interiors but also a reference to the “new” reinterpreted in a museography way. The goal of the thesis is also to show how the project of architectural reuse takes in consideration both the local identity and the contemporary needs.

Abstract
The goal of the thesis is also to show how the project of architectural reuse takes in consideration both the local identity and the contemporary needs.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
