The electrification of aircraft is becoming very important in the last period, especially to limit polluting emissions, reduce fuel costs and reduce noise. This study aims to address this topic through the development of a library within Modelica framework for a preliminary design of the propulsion chain of an electric aircraft, including the thermal management system which is one of the most challenging topics. The sizing was later integrated into an optimization process to find the best possible configuration of the overall system. The main objective of the work is the generation of a model that can be applied to any aircraft profile, giving as input to the simulation the requirements in terms of power demand. Finally, to validate the model, using as simulation input the power demand of the Cirrus SR22, some results are presented and compared with the results obtained for a different architecture, which does not consider the batteries cooling system.

Abstract
The electrification of aircraft is becoming very important in the last period, especially to limit polluting emissions, reduce fuel costs and reduce noise. This study aims to address this topic through the development of a library within Modelica framework for a preliminary design of the propulsion chain of an electric aircraft, including the thermal management system which is one of the most challenging topics. The sizing was later integrated into an optimization process to find the best possible configuration of the overall system. The main objective of the work is the generation of a model that can be applied to any aircraft profile, giving as input to the simulation the requirements in terms of power demand. Finally, to validate the model, using as simulation input the power demand of the Cirrus SR22, some results are presented and compared with the results obtained for a different architecture, which does not consider the batteries cooling system.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
