The Metaverse: analysis of the state of art in the public sector

The phenomenon of the Metaverse is emerging as one of the trends in technology for the future years. To address this issue, many public organizations have implemented several projects inside in order to develop new business opportunities and guarantee the evolution of the Metaverse itself. Therefore, this master thesis is aimed at defining first the real meaning and features of the Metaverse, highlighting the similarities and differences between what the literature review said and what the real case studies have applied and pointed out the strength and the weaknesses of the Metaverse today and in the future. In order to do this, a literature review of the papers has been conducted in order to understand the phenomenon on a global scale, the main features and the main contribution from the other phenomenon to the Metaverse with the aim of trying to systematise them. The second part of the work consists of the analysis of real-life experience by interviewing public organizations which are implementing projects inside the Metaverse with an analysis among them and a final comparison from what emerges in the first part. The results show an interesting point regarding the idea of those about the Metaverse, and its enabling factors and limitations, showing in both cases the experience is positive and necessitates further improvement in order for the technology to arrive at maturity to exploit its features in the best condition possible.

Il fenomeno del Metaverso sta emergendo come uno delle tendenze tecnologiche degli anni futuri. Per affrontare questo tema, molte aziende hanno implementato diversi progetti al loro interno per sviluppare nuove opportunità di business e garantire l'evoluzione del Metaverso stesso. Questa tesi di laurea magistrale si propone di esplorare e analizzare ciò che è stato fatto nella teoria e nella realtà, partendo dalla rassegna della letteratura fino alle esperienze di vita reale, cercando di capire le somiglianze e le differenze tra di esse per quanto riguarda il Metaverso. A tal fine, è stata condotta una revisione della letteratura per comprendere il fenomeno su scala globale, le caratteristiche principali e i principali contributi degli altri fenomeni al Metaverso, con l'obiettivo di cercare di sistematizzarli. La seconda parte del lavoro consiste nell'analisi di esperienze reali intervistando organizzazioni pubbliche che stanno realizzando progetti all'interno del Metaverso con un'analisi tra di loro e un confronto finale rispetto a quanto emerso dalla prima parte del lavoro. I risultati mostrano un punto interessante per quanto riguarda l'idea di coloro che si occupano del Metaverso, e i suoi punti di forza e di debolezza, mostrando in entrambi i casi che le esperienze sono positive e necessitano di ulteriori miglioramenti affinché la tecnologia arrivi alla maturità per potere sfruttare le sue caratteristiche nella migliore condizione possibile.
