Il parco infestato. Un parco innovativo nell'area degli ex Mercati Generali

Our project proposal is based on a new ethic and aesthetic conception of urban green areas aimed to bring out plants spontaneously growing in our city centers which are often discarded or rather weeded out. This does not only represent a new form of cohabitation between nature and mankind but also a sustainable proposal from an energetic point of view as it is based on new low-energy consumption technologies. Giving back to nature some of the spaces previously belonging to it, in order to live and develop represents a fair exchange and equitable basis in order to understand how living with nature can bring only excellent results, even if this means coming to terms with weeds. According to this aim, the main input of our project is the reappraisal of spontaneous and ever-present plants commonly known as “weeds”. The aim of our project is also to show that plants which are normally banished and uprooted might have in reality remarkable aesthetic features, besides the most familiar medicinal ones. The project consists of a park made up of surely weed and spontaneous plants, which need not be buried into place but are let invade the ground. For this reason we have conceived a set of floral solutions and a few selected views, which however may not reflect the actual location and the real essences to be found there in the future. The area is entirely enclosed by perimeter walls and it is revealed to visitors only in a few points, as if it were an invitation to enter a mysterious, magic and secret world. Several facilities are offered on both limiting sides, in some cases in an explicit way through a play of transparencies and in others in a more implicit way: the restaurant and infusion-shop, the library, the reading room, the conference hall, the laboratories and the crops of essences devoted to this activities. We aim in this way to encourage people to approach an unusual but ever-present nature, including its wild and tameless aspects. The area taken into consideration is 28.000 sqm wide; the current built fraction is about 80% of the total one and the project is expected to assign 70% of it to greenery.

La proposta progettuale si basa su una nuova concezione etica ed estetica delle aree verdi urbane atta a valorizzare le piante che crescono spontaneamente nelle nostre città e che spesso vengono eliminate o ignorate. Non è solo una nuova tipologia di convivenza tra uomo e natura ma anche una proposta sostenibile dal punto di vista energetico e legata alle nuove tecnologie a basso consumo. Restituire alla natura alcuni degli spazi che le appartenevano, per vivere e svilupparsi è un giusto scambio ed un buon presupposto per comprendere che vivere con essa non può che portare ad ottimi risultati, anche se ciò dovesse voler dire fare i conti con le erbacce. Proprio a questo proposito, la rivalutazione delle piante spontanee ed infestanti, comunemente chiamate “erbacce”, è l’input principale del nostro progetto. Lo scopo è anche dimostrare che le piante estirpate e bandite in ogni giardino in realtà presentano notevoli caratteristiche estetiche, oltre a quelle officinali e mediche, più note. Il progetto consiste in un parco di piante sicuramente spontanee e spesso infestanti, che non devono essere piantumate ma possono invadere liberamente la superficie. Per questo motivo abbiamo previsto alcune ipotesi floristiche ed alcune viste suggestive che però non sono previsioni certe della distribuzione e delle essenze che vi si troveranno in futuro. Lo spazio è completamente cinto dalle mura perimetrali e si svela ai passanti solo in alcuni punti, quasi ad invitarli ad entrare in un mondo misterioso, magico e segreto. Gli edifici che lo delimitano su due lati offrono diversi servizi, a volte espliciti, attraverso giochi di trasparenze e permeabilità, a volte solo suggeriti: risto-tisaneria, biblioteca, sala lettura, sala conferenze/proiezioni, laboratori e coltivazioni di alcune essenze utili per queste attività. Lo scopo è quello di educare ed avvicinare il pubblico ad una natura insolita, ma da sempre presente, comprensiva dei suoi aspetti selvaggi ed indomabili. L’area considerata si estende per 28.000 mq; attualmente la superficie costruita è quasi il 80% di quella considerata, il progetto prevede di liberare circa il 70% di essa e destinarlo alla vegetazione.
