The present book investigates and studies the contradictory dynamics of an urban agglomerate characterised by a continuity of life spanning thousands of years. The ancient centre of Naples is a very complex area, rich in different elements, stratified, porous, made up of elements that have never been isolated. The city, born from tuff, is an archaeological landscape, which is still grafted onto the Greek-Roman layout, it is a plot that never reaches completion, on which there is a union and cohesion of new elements and ancient elements, there is a succession of filled spaces, thickened between them. The thesis therefore aims to investigate how the layers of history that have overlapped over time have developed into a cohesive and strongly identified organism, with peculiar characteristics compared to the development of many other cities. Moreover, within this intricate mechanism made up of ancient layouts, underground cities, austere palaces and monumental buildings, there are 'crumbs', remnants of the past, ancient objects that are currently in a state of waiting or neglect, undervalued, not integrated into urban mechanisms and totally ignored by citizens. The reasons why, in the city, where each element complements the adjoining one, this boundary between dead and living objects exists are therefore explored, and after a careful analysis of the concept of ruins, of archaeological remains, an attempt is made to provide answers, through a particular type of tutelary action that must be understood as elementary operative components of a project, which must be integrated case by case in each of the settlement interventions. The study thus has the ambition, to be understood in the purely etymological sense, to link the simple and grandiose vestiges of the past with the needs of the contemporary world, which must include knowledge of what has preceded it in order to ensure its continuity, preservation and rebirth. In this way, the crumbs are transformed into a journey whose final destination is the restitution of the past, sometimes simple, sometimes glorious, to the citizens, in order to increase awareness of their origins and propose interpretations of the urban planning choices that have come before.

Abstract
In this way, the crumbs are transformed into a journey whose final destination is the restitution of the past, sometimes simple, sometimes glorious, to the citizens, in order to increase awareness of their origins and propose interpretations of the urban planning choices that have come before.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
