This thesis is focused on the spin transport properties of electrically drifted spin-polarized electrons in silicon. Bulk Si is the most widely used semiconductor in electronics; therefore, characterize spin phenomena in this material is of great interest for the development of a new generation of spintronic devices compatible with the common electronic platform. In the framework of this thesis, spin-polarized electrons are optically injected into the Si conduction band exploiting circularly polarized light. Then, they are accelerated by an electric field toward a Pt bar, used as spin detector and grown on top of the silicon substrate. The spin transport is investigated by a spin drift-diffusion model that allows evaluating the spin transport length as a function of the applied electric field.

Abstract
This thesis is focused on the spin transport properties of electrically drifted spin-polarized electrons in silicon. Bulk Si is the most widely used semiconductor in electronics; therefore, characterize spin phenomena in this material is of great interest for the development of a new generation of spintronic devices compatible with the common electronic platform. In the framework of this thesis, spin-polarized electrons are optically injected into the Si conduction band exploiting circularly polarized light. Then, they are accelerated by an electric field toward a Pt bar, used as spin detector and grown on top of the silicon substrate. The spin transport is investigated by a spin drift-diffusion model that allows evaluating the spin transport length as a function of the applied electric field.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
