The Housing Crisis is a radical issue in London and is characterized by the lack of affordability due to the privatization of the housing sector. Although the government has taken measures to tackle the crisis through the implementation of various housing strategies, not all of them have favoured the entire population of London. Several marginalized communities have faced the brunt of these initiatives. This thesis targets the Black Asian Minority Ethnic (BAME) groups in the city, outlines their housing struggles on the grounds of racial discrimination across different tenures and discusses the adverse effects of these unfavourable policies with an emphasis on their dispossession in council estates. Consequently, a greater proportion of the BAME communities are the worst hit by the crisis. Introducing schemes promoting racial equality in the regeneration of council estates through an alternative housing model is important for elevating the housing standards of the BAME communities. This can reduce the pressure on the local authorities and have a positive effect on the housing crisis. This thesis explores co-housing as an alternative government-based housing solution which could help overcome the housing issues faced by these communities. It further examines the viability of the co-housing scheme by critically analyzing the aspects of the model that prove to be advantageous to both the government and the minority ethnic groups.

Abstract
It further examines the viability of the co-housing scheme by critically analyzing the aspects of the model that prove to be advantageous to both the government and the minority ethnic groups.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
