The aim of this research is to examine the fundamental characteristics of Scandinavian vernacular timber architecture, trying to extract the founding principles for their transposition into contemporary life, through the investigatio of the how and the why of things. Two questions that prove to be fundamental in a context, both environmental and cultural, in which the conditions of the place dictate the principles of the constructive act, leaving humans the possibility of elaborating these principles to find their own dimension of living. The act of construction is therefore considered as an expression of a possible way of living belonging to that particular place, through the relationship with the ground, the orientation, the use of local materials, traditional techniques and appropriate construction technologies, which contribute to the establishment of a language strongly rooted in the territory, and for this immediately recognizable. The tectonics of vernacular timber architecture thus represents a possible synthesis in which architecture thus becomes the instrument for establishing a dialogue that relates the parts with delicacy and balance. And it is precisely in this appropriateness of things that the concept of lagom is rooted, a word as simple as it is full of meaning that distinguishes the entire Swedish culture - a way of living and relating to the world in a poetic and pragmatic way at the same time. Lagom. Neither too much nor too little. Just the right amount. The understanding of the principles that led to the construction and development of a spontaneous architecture, thus becomes fundamental in contemporary practice for the construction of new construction models, through the interpretation and transposition of those principles in the contemporary world. The many opportunities offered by new technologies, looking at the past, can thus bring their contribution to a sustainable development or, better to say, responsible, of a way of making architecture through the fundamental principle of continuity, which is not only a figurative continuity but rather a cultural one. An appropriate architecture, in balance between tradition and contemporaneity, in dialogue with history but projected towards the future.

Abstract
An appropriate architecture, in balance between tradition and contemporaneity, in dialogue with history but projected towards the future.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
