Abstract
In the past, many cities have used mega events to attract investments, and develop tourism. Until recently the focus was to put primarily on building new infrastructures for sports or facilities for culture to hosts these events. Recently, some organizers of mega events have shifted on towards using already existing facilities – revitalizing them or adapting them for new purposes. For historic and heritage rich cities, this change triggered both by cuts in city budget and by a slower pace of urban expansion represent an opportunity for development, but it also imposes a threat if this is not correctly understood and implemented. A mega event may attract high volumes of visitors often for short period, but cities should have the intention to retain tourist over a long period of time, keeping in mind a longer-term perspective. The thesis project aims to bring into discussion of architecture as cultural ingredient. It will be related to the upcoming event of 2023 whereas Bergamo together with Brescia will both be the centre of events for the Italian Capital of Culture. To propose a cultural park that will not only be used during the said event but will later become the identity of Bergamo apart from Citta Alta, and the redesigning and reuse of the Ex Albergo Diurno. In which will feature the many colours of culture of Bergamo, the Lombardy Region, and basically, the Italian Culture by using culture and architecture as the main ingredients – The architecture, the history, and the people themselves by going through the history of the city from the very beginning when it was established, when it was colonized, and when it grew and became a town, then a city, then as the name of the whole province itself to show the very importance of the city for the whole identity of the country, and to fortify the facts why it has been chosen as the upcoming capital of culture of Italy.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
