The changing city : flessibilità e trasformazione d'uso di tre strutture industriali a Carpi

The formal qualities of the elements, as well as the condition of the materials at our disposal, can sometimes prove decisive in decision-making, regarding the fate of these objects, which, usually, due to their particular characteristics, lend themselves better to solutions related to public use. Hence the possibility, but perhaps also the duty, as architects, to experiment with innovative solutions, recovering in part or totally the available elements, using the skeleton as a support for a new architecture or new social situations, adding, subtracting and/or replacing some of its components, integrating different functions among them even of a transitory and not definitive nature, or accepting its state purely as a ruin allowing vegetation to reappropriate, in a controlled way, the space. Each possibility of intervention, of course, does not exclude the other, so different approaches can also be envisaged in the new system, but they must be consistent first of all with the object of intervention, the context and its history, but also with the objectives that the project sets, based on the actual needs of the area, the city and the territory.

Le qualità formali degli elementi, oltre che le condizioni dei materiali a nostra disposizione, a volte possono rivelarsi determinanti in fase decisionale, per quanto riguarda il destino di questi oggetti che, solitamente, per le loro particolari caratteristiche, si prestano meglio a soluzioni legate ad un uso pubblico.Da qui la possibilità, ma forse anche il dovere, in qualità di architetti, di sperimentare con soluzioni innovative, recuperando in parte o totalmente gli elementi a disposizione, utilizzando lo scheletro come supporto per una nuova architettura o nuove situazioni sociali, aggiungendo, sottraendo e/o sostituendo alcune delle sue componenti, integrando funzioni diverse tra loro anche di natura transitoria e non definitiva, o accettare il suo stato puramente come rovina permettendo alla vegetazione di riappropriarsi, in modo controllato, dello spazio. Ogni possibilità di intervento, ovviamente, non esclude l’altra, per cui nel nuovo sistema potranno essere previsti anche diversi approcci, che dovranno però essere coerenti innanzitutto con l’oggetto di intervento, il contesto e la sua storia, ma anche con gli obiettivi che si pone il progetto, in base alle effettive esigenze dell’area, della città e del territorio
