From the field to the house : design of a circular sustainable system of production and self-build housing modules in the southern area of Milan

This thesis work focuses primarily on the design of architectural elements to support the local bread production chain that starts from the field and involves materials and livelihood elements for those involved. The concept stems from the identification of the need for a space that is liveable, sustainable and self-sufficient, for the users of the School of Bread and Places of Madre Project in Chiaravalle, Milan. After an analysis of the associations active in the aforementioned area, the Piazzale Ferrara Market and Cascina Nosedo, in southern Milan, were identified as additional points of interest. Each of these sites brings with it strengths and limitations that this project sets out to analyse and address. Specifically in the intervention area in Chiaravalle, this thesis project presents a process of interventions whose ultimate goal is the provision of a student residence aimed at accommodating the students of the School of Bread and Places; the modular units, integrated with each other, try to create a complex that opens to a dialogue with the existing context by integrating new and previous functions.

Questo lavoro di tesi si concentra principalmente sulla progettazione di dispositivi architettonici di supporto alla filiera produttiva locale del pane che parte dal campo e coinvolge materiali ed elementi di sostentamento per gli attori coinvolti. Il concept nasce dall'identificazione del bisogno di uno spazio che sia vivibile, sostenibile e autosufficiente, per gli utenti della Scuola del Pane e dei Luoghi di Madre Project a Chiaravalle, Milano. A fronte di un'analisi delle associazioni attive nel suddetto territorio sono stati identificati come ulteriori punti di interesse il Mercato di Piazzale Ferrara e Cascina Nosedo, nella zona sud di Milano. Ognuno di questi siti porta con sé dei punti di forza e dei limiti che questo progetto si ripropone di analizzare ed affrontare. In particolare, nell'area di intervento in Chiaravalle, questo progetto di tesi presenta un processo di interventi che vede come fine ultimo la predisposizione di uno studentato volto ad accogliere gli studenti della Scuola del Pane e dei Luoghi; le unità modulari, integrate fra loro, vanno a creare un complesso che si apre ad un dialogo con il contesto esistente integrando le nuove e le precedenti funzioni.
