Costruire riciclando : storia di una architettura sperimentale

"To ensure a long life to a building means to assure it glory, because this resides neither in the stones nor in the gold of which it is made, its glory requires in both age and in their undying witness before men, in that force that unites forgotten epochs to the ages that follow and, almost, constitutes the identity of nations". With these words full of the romantic spirit of the nineteenth century, John Ruskin describes what buildings and "ruins" represent for him. We may long wonder about the meaning of some of these words. Testimony before men? Identity of nations? Are these words that still make sense in the twenty-first century? Do we still care about them in a globalized and consumerist world? Is it still important to safeguard places, traditions and local languages? Do we still care about our territories and more widely about our planet, about the sense of community or the only thing that matters is the small revolution in our personal lives? This thesis aims to touch, albeit fleetingly, some of these questions, showing a different way of dealing in a theoretical way, but above all also practical, how some current issues can be solved, such as the recovery and efficiency of a building, taking into account all the issues mentioned above.

“Assicurare una lunga vita ad un edificio significa, assicurargli la gloria, perché questa non risiede né nelle pietre né nell’oro di cui è fatto, la gloria sua richiede nella sia età e nella loro imperitura testimonianza di fronte agli uomini, in quella forza che congiunge epoche dimenticate alle epoche che seguono e, quasi, costituisce l’identità delle nazioni”. Con queste parole piene dello spirito romantico del XIX sec. John Ruskin descrive cosa per lui rappresentano gli edifici e le “rovine”. Potremmo a lungo interrogarci sul significato di alcune di queste parole. Testimonianza di fronte agli uomini? Identità delle nazioni? Sono parole che hanno ancora un senso nel XXI sec. ? Ci importa ancora qualcosa di esse in un mondo globalizzato e consumistico? È ancora importante salvaguardare luoghi tradizioni e linguaggi locali? Ci importa ancora qualcosa dei nostri territori ed in maniera più estesa del nostro pianeta, del senso di comunità o l’unica cosa che conta è la piccola rivoluzione nelle nostre vite personali? Questa tesi ha l’obbiettivo di toccare, seppur in maniera fugace, alcuni di questi quesiti, mostrando un modo differente di affrontare in maniera teorica, ma soprattutto anche pratica, come si possono risolvere alcuni temi attuali, quali il recupero e l’efficientamento di un edificio, tenendo conto di tutte le tematiche citate precedentemente.
