Municipalities and cities around the world are under increasing stress due to growing urbanization and higher concerns about the environment and its preservation. To achieve these goals, new developments and technologies are coming to the rescue of cities and have led to the emergence of the smart city paradigm. Within it, mobility plays a fundamental importance, an area in which, the application of the main information and communication technologies allow it to become "Smart." In this sense, the thesis aims to investigate the state of the art of Smart Mobility both in Italy and in the rest of the World, also assessing how its application areas differ in terms of involvement of public actors, level of maturity (technological and regulatory) and benefits. In order to achieve the above objectives, three different research methods have been used. To develop an overview of Smart Mobility and the two most important enabling technologies in this context, a literature review has been conducted, both on scientific papers and online articles. To analyse the state of the art in Italy of this paradigm, a survey has been conducted in collaboration with the Connected Car and Mobility Observatory of the Politecnico di Milano. The global point of view, on the other hand, is given by the results of a census conducted on major search engines in order to populate a database containing the main Smart Mobility initiatives in the rest of the world. Finally, in order to assess the distribution of application domains with respect to the above-mentioned dimensions, a framework, called “Potentiality matrix of Smart Mobility application environments”, has been developed and it presents their positioning based on the research conducted.

Abstract
Finally, in order to assess the distribution of application domains with respect to the above-mentioned dimensions, a framework, called “Potentiality matrix of Smart Mobility application environments”, has been developed and it presents their positioning based on the research conducted.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
