Mira Lanza multi-use center : renovation of ex Mira Lanza factory in Rome

“MIRA LANZA Multi-use Center” is a renovation project in the heart of the XI Municipality of Rome, between Ostiense and Marconi districts, overlooking the Tiber, several buildings stand out, old structures in the middle of the green, or what should be a green space. This is where the building complex of the former Mira Lanza soap factory is located. A complex that has undergone numerous changes over the course of its history and which is now, in some of its parts, abandoned to itself. The purpose of this project is to give a new perspective to an abandoned field with great potential; use and adapt the space by creating different functions and bring a new life to the neighborhood. It creates a strong connection trough two different parts of that area, balancing the use of innovative and modern technologies and the revitalization of the previous walls. this connection is given by a well designed complex that encourages the local inhabitants to be more involved with the project. The project aims to merge the fields of architecture and food production, making them interact to create a complete project in all its phases; use innovative technologies that create spaces as attractive and impressive as the structure that hosts them. At the same time, a noticeable attention is given to the environment, climate change, sustainability, and the reduction of CO2 emissions through passive and active strategies.

“Centro Polifunzionale MIRA LANZA” è un progetto di ristrutturazione nel cuore dell'XI Municipio di Roma, tra i quartieri Ostiense e Marconi, affacciato sul Tevere, spiccano diversi edifici, vecchie strutture in mezzo al verde, o quello che dovrebbe essere uno spazio verde. Qui si trova il complesso edilizio dell'ex saponificio Mira Lanza. Un complesso che ha subito numerose modifiche nel corso della sua storia e che oggi è, in alcune sue parti, abbandonato a se stesso. Lo scopo di questo progetto è quello di dare una nuova prospettiva ad un campo abbandonato con un grande potenziale; utilizzare e adattare lo spazio creando diverse funzioni e portare una nuova vita al quartiere. Crea una forte connessione tra due diverse parti di quell'area, bilanciando l'uso di tecnologie innovative e moderne e la rivitalizzazione delle mura precedenti. questa connessione è data da un complesso ben progettato che incoraggia gli abitanti locali a essere maggiormente coinvolti nel progetto. Il progetto mira a fondere i campi dell'architettura e della produzione alimentare, facendoli interagire per creare un progetto completo in tutte le sue fasi; utilizzano tecnologie innovative che creano spazi attraenti e suggestivi come la struttura che li ospita. Allo stesso tempo, una notevole attenzione viene data all'ambiente, ai cambiamenti climatici, alla sostenibilità e alla riduzione delle emissioni di CO2 attraverso strategie passive e attive.
