The interdisciplinary exploration of a large housing estate in East Germany: The case of Dresden Prohlis (1976-2022)

The thesis focuses on the process of change that East German large housing estates have undergone from their emergence to the present and what changes this has brought about. It deals with the question of why the image of the East German large housing estates has changed so fundamentally and which factors were decisive for this. Within the framework of interdisciplinary research, this process of change is presented, examined and interpreted using the example of the large housing estate Dresden-Prohlis. The work is based on diverse research methods and empirical research, which serve to provide as complete a picture of the change as possible.

Questa tesi si concentra sul processo di cambiamento che i grandi complessi residenziali della Germania dell'Est hanno subito dalla loro nascita fino ad oggi e sui cambiamenti che ciò ha comportato. Affronta la questione del perché l'immagine dei grandi complessi residenziali della Germania Est sia cambiata in modo così radicale e quali fattori siano stati decisivi per questo. Nell'ambito di una ricerca interdisciplinare, questo processo di cambiamento viene presentato, esaminato e interpretato utilizzando l'esempio del grande complesso residenziale di Dresda-Prohlis. Il lavoro si basa su diversi metodi di indagine e ricerca empirica, che servono a sviluppare un quadro il più possibile completo del cambiamento.
