Xperi-mentor is a service that empowers adolescents to explore different career possibilities in an experiential manner. It offers an informal network of young mentors in diverse fields and activities that enable experiential career exploration. To ensure support and motivation, the service involves key influencing actors: parents and peers. Xperi-mentor, was developed through the process of co-design with the users. Career selection is a crucial step in one’s life and hence a complex process to undertake for adolescents. The challenges pertain to the young age and a myriad of socio-cultural factors influencing the decision. This thesis investigates the context and problems related to career selection among adolescents in India, from Ahmedabad, with mid-higher middle economic backgrounds. Incorporating insights from reviews, interviews, and case studies, this thesis discovers that the crucial step of career exploration, of students’ interests and of possibilities, is often overlooked and oversimplified. Additionally, there is a lack of exposure and effective guidance for parents and students.
Xperi-mentor è un servizio che consente agli adolescenti di esplorare diverse possibilità di carriera in modo esperienziale. Offre una rete informale di giovani mentori in diversi settori e attività che consentono l'esplorazione esperienziale della carriera. Per garantire il sostegno e la motivazione, il servizio coinvolge gli attori chiave: genitori e coetanei. Xperi-mentor è stato sviluppato attraverso un processo di co-design con gli utenti. La scelta della carriera è un passo cruciale nella vita di una persona e quindi un processo complesso da intraprendere per gli adolescenti. Le sfide riguardano la giovane età e una miriade di fattori socio-culturali che influenzano la decisione. Questa tesi indaga il contesto e i problemi legati alla selezione della carriera tra gli adolescenti di Ahmedabad, in India, con un background economico medio-alto. Incorporando spunti di riflessione provenienti da recensioni, interviste e casi di studio, questa tesi scopre che la fase cruciale dell'esplorazione della carriera, degli interessi e delle possibilità degli studenti, è spesso trascurata e semplificata in modo eccessivo. Inoltre, manca un orientamento efficace per genitori e studenti.
