The choice of the Polcenigo territory as project area for this master thesis lies in its historical and natural potential, nowadays largely unexpressed and valued. The municipality is part of the Pordenone province in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. It is settled at the piedmont of the Friulan pre-alpine chain and it is separated from the high plain by some smaller hills: this particular morphological condition has been fundamental in defining the historical evolution of this landscape. The whole territory is full of signs and meanings that testify the secular stratifications: nowadays, however, too little attention is given to them, neglected and overlooked both from a natural and an architectural point of view. The method with which we have developed the potential of this environment is integrated in the assumption that the landscape, as its maximum expression, can tell the story of places. Particular attention was paid to two main territorial elements, landmarks and main representatives of the historical and natural value of the region. The first one is the ruin of castle that dominates the historical centre from the hill north of it, facing the road on south that cuts the hills towards the plain. The second, instead, is the Santissima spring: this water source, the main one of Livenza river, is inserted in a landscape of great environmental value and it is originated by the karst phenomenon. From a cultural point of view, the spring has always been associated to mystical and religious beliefs since the pre-Roman era. In addition to these two elements, the project aims to define a historical-naturalistic cycle-pedestrian route that connects the castle with the spring, winding through the valley defined by the first mountain ranges on north and the hills on south.

Abstract
In addition to these two elements, the project aims to define a historical-naturalistic cycle-pedestrian route that connects the castle with the spring, winding through the valley defined by the first mountain ranges on north and the hills on south.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
