"What we need is to learn to reason with enough abstraction to explore conditions of possibility and not have conditioned objects." “Fence” is a sufficiently undefined concept that lends itself perfectly to the reconsideration of its meaning: preventing the crossing. Not necessarily of a physical body but possibly that of the gaze, or of a legislation. It is intimately linked to the idea of territory in relation to how it can be structured and articulated through the enclosures. Our interest is projected particularly towards the use, preserving the desire not to run the risk of paying attention to uses too concrete, or individual, useful to talk only about the particular, useless to act as a paradigm, by comparison term and point of view for other uses and other objects. Through these premises it is possible to link architecture with other fields of knowledge and, on the territory of this conjunction, it becomes possible to establish a game of images and elementary associations, dimensional and morphological that synthesize a panorama of possibilities. Origin represents the first phase in which the historical, epistemological and symbolic characteristics that led to the formation of this phenomenon through specific eras are reflected. For the exploration of this primordial language it becomes fundamental the analysis of iconographic images that are structured as a research tool for the architectural, political and social interpretation of the archetype. Subsequently, in the phase of Investigation, the identities of the enclosure will be defined with the determination of elementary associations in which the dimensional and morphological characters that compose it will be established. This will lead to the graphicization and redesign of selected case studies focusing on contemporary architectural practices in an attempt to decline and directly compare, through the weak strength of the projects, the various possibilities that these propose. In series, the examples will be collected along the route of the thesis forming a taxonomy made for levels of increasing complexity, which relates “Atlas of dimension” and “Atlas of morphology”. As a Documentation Term, a reflection on the interpretation of confinement will be provided by proposing a change of state in which freedom, when it becomes indifference between everything, can represent an insidious system. Thus a critical position is established concerning the dissolution of all forms of limit, which generate a lack of definition of urbis form. It becomes therefore necessary to hypothesize new perspectives, showing, through a single synthesis element, the evolution of architectural systems as ancient as current. The thesis project will outline and define new contemporary possibilities of interpretation, starting from the assumption that the limit becomes a fundamental characteristic in the possibility of deciding whether to stay inside or outside. This research work is the starting point for a study that has the potential to continue over Time.

"Ciò che ci serve è imparare a ragionare con sufficiente astrattezza per esplorare condizioni di possibilità e non avere oggetti condizionati." “Recinto” è un concetto sufficientemente indefinito che si presta perfettamente alla riconsiderazione del suo significato: impedire l’attraversamento. Non necessariamente di un corpo fisico ma eventualmente quello dello sguardo, o di una legislazione. Risulta intimamente legato all’idea di territorio in relazione a come può essere strutturato e articolato attraverso i recinti. Il nostro interesse si proietta particolarmente verso l’uso, conservando la volontà di non correre il rischio di prestare attenzione ad usi troppo concreti, o individuali, utili a parlare solo del particolare, inservibili a fare da paradigma, da termine di confronto e punto di vista per altri usi e altri oggetti. Attraverso queste premesse è possibile congiungere l’architettura con altri campi del sapere e, sul territorio di questa congiunzione, diventa possibile istituire un gioco di immagini e associazioni elementari, dimensionali e morfologiche che sintetizzano un panorama di possibilità. Origine rappresenta la prima fase in cui si ripercorrono i caratteri storici, epistemologici e simbolici che hanno portato alla formazione di questo fenomeno attraverso specifiche epoche. Per l’esplorazione di questo linguaggio primordiale diventa fondamentale l’analisi di immagini iconografiche che si strutturano come strumento di ricerca per l’interpretazione architettonica, politica e sociale dell’archetipo. Successivamente, nella fase di Indagine, verranno definite le identità del recinto con la determinazione di associazioni elementari in cui saranno stabiliti i caratteri dimensionali e morfologici che lo compongono. Questo porterà alla graficizzazione e ridisegno di casi studio selezionati ponendo l’attenzione su pratiche architettoniche contemporanee nel tentativo di declinare e mettere direttamente a confronto, attraverso la debole forza dei progetti, le diverse possibilità che questi propongono. In serie, gli esempi, verranno collezionati lungo il percorso della tesi formando una tassonomia fatta per livelli di complessità crescente, che mette in relazione “Atlanti dimensionali” e “Atlanti morfologici”. Come Termine di documentazione sarà fornita una riflessione sull’interpretazione del confinamento proponendo un cambio di stato in cui la libertà, quando diventa indifferenza tra qualunque cosa, può rappresentare un sistema insidioso. Si istituisce così una posizione critica relativa alla dissoluzione di tutte le forme di limite, le quali generano una mancata definizione di forma urbis. Diventa quindi necessario ipotizzare prospettive inedite, mostrando, attraverso un unico elemento sintesi, l’evoluzione di sistemi architettonici tanto antichi quanto attuali. Il progetto di tesi traccerà e definirà nuove possibilità contemporanee di interpretazione, partendo dall’assunto che il limite diventa caratteristica fondamentale nella possibilità di decidere se stare dentro o fuori. Questo lavoro di ricerca si pone come punto di partenza per uno studio che ha potenzialità di continuare nel corso del Tempo.
