The world we live in suffers from an increasing number of social and environmental challenges, whose resolution often falls in the hands of actors with a social mission. Given the complex and uncertain nature of social problems, effective contributions can be provided by social value oriented organizations with multidisciplinary competences. A concrete exemplification can be seen in multiparty social alliances: the joining of different organisations brought together for the pursuit of sharedvalues and visions. Getting together, these organizations may be able to generate social impact through the combination of their efforts and resources, leveraging on their diverse expertise. To better manage the creation of social value, multiparty social alliances are required to undertake a process of measuring and monitoring social impacts. Indeed, the assessment of the social value generated can support accountability among the actors in the alliance and towards external stakeholders; moreover, it can enable organizations to understand how the work towards the achievement of social objectives is progressing and, accordingly, how to improve their operations. However, from the analysis of the extant state of knowledge on the subject, a lack of standards emerged with regards to a social impact measurement instrument for multiparty social alliances. Therefore, the present dissertation was conducted with the objective of advancing the understanding and practical application of social impact measurement practices for multiparty organizations. The study developed focuses on the creation of structured approaches for modelling social impact measurement systems in multiparty social alliances. Thanks to a practical experience in a multiparty organization operating in Milan, Mosso, a process was developed for building a measurement tool capable of capturing both individual and joint contributions of the parties involved in social alliances. In particular, the study involved the generation of a measurement instrument for Mosso, a social project that originated from the collaboration of multiple social organizations based in Milan and funded by multiple actors including the Municipality of Milan and Cariplo Foundation. The process for building the tool was grounded on a primary data collection elaborated through an exploratory survey and semi-structured interviews. The resulting insights have been framed in a consequential logic to understand and model how the activities performed can generate social impacts. Finally, social performance indicators and methods for data collection have been created to measure quantitatively and qualitatively relevant aspects of Mosso services, short-term effects on beneficiaries and long-term impacts on the society. The developed process has been located in the wider social impact measurement literature and practice, so to offer practitioners a model for creating social impact measurement tools for other multiparty social alliances and advance research in the field.

Abstract
The developed process has been located in the wider social impact measurement literature and practice, so to offer practitioners a model for creating social impact measurement tools for other multiparty social alliances and advance research in the field.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
