The seaside colonies located along the Romagna coastline are witnesses to a social and architectural context that has now lost its original function, cultural memories representing customs and habits that have changed with time at the same time as society. The following dissertation intends to investigate the dynamics that led to the birth of an architectural model that, before its final consolidation, was defined by a plurality of names. Historical research and the analysis of social, welfare, economic and political dynamics have led me to analyse these buildings from a functional point of view in consideration of the role that architecture played in relation to the final use of space. The risk facing reconversion projects today, is to consider the colonies solely as ‘containers’ capable of hosting possible new functions. The pitfall behind the different approaches tends to completely neglect the calibrated internal relationship of these buildings, understood as a volumetric void available to the designers. In the absence of a ‘site-specific’ project, the architectural experimentation of the 1920s and 1930s that had as its main axiom the great harmony existing between volumes and the functional distribution of interior spaces would be thwarted. For this reason it is essential to identify targeted interventions, respecting the historical past to which the colonies are linked and reflecting on the principles of protecting this rich cultural heritage that has been granted to us.

Abstract
For this reason it is essential to identify targeted interventions, respecting the historical past to which the colonies are linked and reflecting on the principles of protecting this rich cultural heritage that has been granted to us.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
