When we talk about the relationship between the city and its inhabitants, we think first of all about the physical interaction taking place between buildings, museums, bridges, squares and the people who pass through them in their daily lives. But what is really happening in these built places? A fundamental consideration in the overall idea of the city is the concept of identity of a place to be carried out by analysing what turns out to be its Genius Loci - the spirit that characterises it and refers to its collective memory. From Aldo Rossi to contemporary photographers such as Uliano Lucas and Oliver Curson, many well-known personalities have given their contribution to the definition of this concept. The sense of place is part of the broader idea of cultural sustainability, where the city is turned into a three-dimensional space and a landscape of memory, a vector of culture itself seen as a shared and involving good. In this way, the city becomes a caring place, a vector creating social innovation and reflecting on the concept of horizontal density as a network of interactions between people. In this context, the question that arises is therefore how is possible to create/In this context, we cannot help but asking how to create social innovation eventually leading to the construction and fortification of the community. The answer lies in the idea of designing while thinking of a new hospitality aimed at the community itself and departing from the normal idea of its receptive function. A hospitality where the city becomes the stage to create places of aggregation and connection for the community, where people can be welcomed and integrated with the urban areas and the Genius Loci of the place. In this scenario, the so-called 'Meanwhile uses' play a leading role, i.e. temporary uses of abandoned spaces that already have an established future purpose and are therefore responsible for giving a second life to a building, an urban place or a specific space for a defined period of time. In "interim", precisely: the existence of something lasting until a permanent "project" takes over. ’Meanwhile uses' are increasingly taking over abandoned places as promoters of culture, generators of a sense of community and bearers of economic interests. The result of this analysis and of the set of concepts described above is Hangar151, a temporary project in the former abandoned Idroscalo of Pavia, on the banks of the Ticino river, which will become the "City of Light" within a few years. Hangar151 is, first of all, an exhibition open to all the flows passing through the city of Pavia, linked to the two elements that are most part of the Genius Loci of the place itself: the river and the 150 towers that stood out among the buildings in the historic centre in the past. Secondly, it is a space designed to host events that follow a precise schedule linked to the associations operating in the Pavia area, as well as a place of interaction, of alternation between real and digital and of communication with the city itself, in a journey through the past, the present and the future of the hangar hosting them.

Abstract
When we talk about the relationship between the city and its inhabitants, we think first of all about the physical interaction taking place between buildings, museums, bridges, squares and the people who pass through them in their daily lives.
