Along with the current trend of an increasingly ageing european population, a surge in the number of elderly people is to be predicted due to the post-WWII baby boom. Improved healthcare and living habits are leading to a higher life expectancy, and elderly people are staying independent far longer. While most of the infrastructure is dedicated to those who are no longer self-sufficient, the elderly independent are left at home, often alone or with their spouse. By 2050, there could be more than 1.5 billion people over 65, a major social challenge is looming and must be anticipated. Designed to reconnect the elderly with nature but especially with each other, our project offers a second life for the third age generation through the concepts of co-housing and biophilic design. Immersed in an exceptional Umbrian landscape, le Pot'ager, a horticultural community, consists of a small bioclimatic village integrated within its natural environment. The community, being a pilot project in terms of co-housing for the elderly, aims to be an example both energetically and socially.

Abstract
The community, being a pilot project in terms of co-housing for the elderly, aims to be an example both energetically and socially.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
