The aim of this thesis is to analyze one of the applications where the organic Rankine cycles (ORCs) are used. In particular, ORCs in cement plants in order to recover the waste heat available at the end of the cement production process. The analysis is conducted on two ORCs of two cement factories of Cementi Rossi S.p.A, one located in Piacenza and the other in Pederobba. Both the economical and environmental benefits has been considered. In addition, a performance analysis has been performed on the Pederobsa's ORC, a comparison between the expected and actual performance. An economic analysis taking into account the contributions given by the energy services manager, in which were calculated the main indices such as pay back time (PBT), net present value (NPV) and the internal rate of return (IRR) and finally the water saved by installing an ORC has been quantified, because the hot flue gases transfer heat to the organic fluid and they no longer need to be cooled down with water.

Abstract
The aim of this thesis is to analyze one of the applications where the organic Rankine cycles (ORCs) are used. In particular, ORCs in cement plants in order to recover the waste heat available at the end of the cement production process. The analysis is conducted on two ORCs of two cement factories of Cementi Rossi S.p.A, one located in Piacenza and the other in Pederobba. Both the economical and environmental benefits has been considered. In addition, a performance analysis has been performed on the Pederobsa's ORC, a comparison between the expected and actual performance. An economic analysis taking into account the contributions given by the energy services manager, in which were calculated the main indices such as pay back time (PBT), net present value (NPV) and the internal rate of return (IRR) and finally the water saved by installing an ORC has been quantified, because the hot flue gases transfer heat to the organic fluid and they no longer need to be cooled down with water.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
