Alma de maíz: Transmission of Latin American indigenous cultural heritage through hospitality spaces.

Although they are considered minorities, indigenous cultures have contributed to the founding of numerous societies. Taking back the traditions a culture had in its beginning is a tool to support and give visibility to these minorities that have been forgotten through time. It is a way to create empathy and tolerance, providing a connection with people’s roots, and fostering their sense of belonging. A multi-diverse city can become a cultural exchange place where a new community can be developed from the interaction of different cultures, enhancing people from all around the world to come and share their cultures. The thesis project aims are to communicate and transfer Latin American cultural background and heritage, focused on the most representative indigenous communities, the Mayans, Aztecs, and Inkas, through the interior, spatial and service design of a new kind of entertainment site in Milan, as part of the cultural exchange the city enhances. The results of deep research in culture, cultural heritage, food culture, and social behaviors will be shown in a space focused on food and drink consumption, where the visitors will be able to experience the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the indigenous communities analyzed. According to the Mayor’s Dialogue on Growth and Solidarity, 18 percent of the foreign people living in Milano are from Latin America. However, there is not much knowledge about their roots and culture, which opens up an opportunity to highlight, share and live the most representative aspects of Latin American culture. The Bricks Bar Milano renovation will help increase the knowledge of Italian people about Latin American culture and bring Latin American people living in Milano closer to their roots. The project results will be in many experiences and design of social interactions in which foreign people will learn about Latin American cultural heritage and Latin American people will have a space to get closer to their cultural traditions always focused on the food, celebrations, and folklore.

Sebbene siano considerate minoranze, le culture indigene hanno contribuito alla fondazione di numerose società. Riprendere le tradizioni che una cultura aveva al suo inizio è una strategia per sostenere e dare visibilità a queste minoranze che sono state dimenticate nel tempo; un modo per creare empatia e tolleranza, generando una connessione con le radici delle persone, e un senso di appartenenza. Una città multi-diversa può diventare un luogo di scambio culturale in cui una nuova comunità può essere sviluppata dall'interazione di culture diverse, incoraggiando persone provenienti da tutto il mondo a venire a condividere le loro culture. Il progetto di tesi si propone di comunicare e trasferire il background e il patrimonio culturale latinoamericano, incentrato sulle comunità indigene più rappresentative, i Maya, gli Aztechi e gli Inca, attraverso il design degli interni, degli spazi e dei servizi di un nuovo tipo di luogo di intrattenimento a Milano, come parte dello scambio culturale che la città valorizza. I risultati di una profonda ricerca su cultura, patrimonio culturale, cultura del cibo e comportamenti sociali saranno mostrati in uno spazio incentrato sul consumo di cibo e bevande, dove i visitatori potranno sperimentare il patrimonio culturale materiale e immateriale delle comunità indigene analizzate. Secondo il Dialogo del Sindaco su Crescita e Solidarietà, il 18 per cento degli stranieri che vivono a Milano proviene dall'America Latina. Tuttavia, non c'è molta conoscenza delle loro radici e della loro cultura, il che apre un'opportunità per evidenziare, condividere e vivere gli aspetti più rappresentativi della cultura latinoamericana. La ristrutturazione del Bricks Bar Milano contribuirà ad aumentare la conoscenza della cultura latinoamericana da parte degli italiani e ad avvicinare le persone latinoamericane che vivono a Milano alle loro radici. I risultati del progetto saranno di tipo esperienziale e di interazione sociale in cui le persone straniere impareranno a conoscere il patrimonio culturale latinoamericano e le persone latinoamericane avranno uno spazio per avvicinarsi alle loro tradizioni culturali sempre incentrate sul cibo, le celebrazioni e il folklore.
