Smart Home: state of art and key factors in smart safety solutions

The latest evolutions of the smart home allowed the smart solutions to take a relevant space in the houses of the users, and the topic gained a lot of interest globally, especially after the pandemic when the house reached a new meaning and different importance. Smart home devices allow an increase in the safety level of the houses by enabling remote monitoring, in addition, the comfort of the houses could be enhanced thanks to the smart features that allow adapting the house to the needs and routines of the inhabitants. In this framework it is inserted the thesis which has two goals: after presenting the foundation of the topic with an introduction to smart homes, the first objective is to understand the current state of the art of the smart home market: it has been made possible thanks to the collection of the solutions globally available and recording their features into a database; then it has been performed several analyses on the data under different aggregation to understand in depth the market and describe its possible future trends. The second objective is to gather the functionalities that allowed smart home manufacturers to increase the diffusion of smart safety solutions; after having introduced the importance of the services and the features of the safety devices, in order to achieve this goal, it has been developed a framework that enabled the positioning of the safety solution inside a matrix where the dimensions were additional services and the products’ accessibility.

Le ultime evoluzioni della smart home hanno permesso alle soluzioni intelligenti di occupare uno spazio rilevante nelle case degli utenti, l'argomento ha guadagnato molto interesse a livello globale soprattutto a seguito della pandemia, quando la casa ha assunto un nuovo significato e una diversa importanza. I dispositivi per la smart home permettono di aumentare il livello di sicurezza delle abitazioni consentendo il monitoraggio da remoto, inoltre, il comfort potrebbe essere aumentato grazie alle funzionalità intelligenti che consentono di adattare la casa alle esigenze e alle routine degli abitanti. In questo quadro si inserisce la tesi che ha un duplice intento: dopo aver presentato le basi dell'argomento con un'introduzione alle smart home, il primo obiettivo è quello di comprendere l'attuale stato dell'arte del mercato delle smart home: ciò è stato possibile grazie alla raccolta delle soluzioni disponibili a livello globale e alla registrazione delle loro caratteristiche in un database; successivamente sono state effettuate alcune analisi sui dati sotto diverse aggregazioni per comprendere a fondo il mercato e descriverne i possibili trend futuri. Il secondo obiettivo è quello di raccogliere le funzionalità che hanno permesso ai produttori di smart home di aumentare la diffusione delle soluzioni di sicurezza intelligenti; in seguito all’introduzione sull'importanza dei servizi e delle caratteristiche dei dispositivi di sicurezza, è stato sviluppato un framework che ha permesso raggiungere questo obbiettivo posizionando le soluzioni all'interno di una matrice in cui le dimensioni sono i servizi aggiuntivi e l'accessibilità dei prodotti.
