Antiquarium del Canopo: proposta per un progetto di musealizzazione ed impianto termale per Villa Adriana

Today mass tourism needs a valid alternative, the goal is to slow down the gaze in order to grasp new sensations. The intention is to adopt a solution to slow down the gaze, proposing a new infrastructure capable of approaching the villa and strengthening the link with the landscape and the context. The thesis project gives life to a thermal and museum facility within the archaeological site of Villa Adriana, which can already be accessed from the surrounding area. The infrastructure extends beyond the boundaries of the villa, including the Buffer Zone, to create a further link between the rural landscape and the ruins. Villa Adriana and its context represent Roman classicism and bring to mind times and places of a distant past. The Roman baths are a cultural heritage that has been handed down to the present day: a space for hygiene and body care, but also a meeting place. The thermal exhibition pavilion is directly confronted with the pre-existing villa, assuming the characteristics of a modern building based on the relationship between water and beauty. The structure aims to enhance the West terrace of the Canopus by including the Antiquarium, providing it with a new independent access, now denied, including a new scenographic view. The structure was built taking into account the context and the surrounding ruins, always respecting the principle of recognition and use of modern techniques for their construction, thus ensuring respect for the ruins themselves, and will affect both the upper part of the building and the underlying structures with the ancient classrooms that will be used as thermal baths. The goal is in fact to provide the villa not only with a wellness complex, but also with a place dedicated to the enhancement of the archaeological site. Thus, the thesis project expresses contemporary architecture by reinventing the Roman baths hidden among the trees, creating a pure connection with the environment, creating a link between well-being and the past.

Oggi giorno il turismo di massa necessita di un’alternativa valida, l’obiettivo è rallentare lo sguardo al fine di cogliere nuove sensazioni. L’intenzione è quella di adottare una soluzione per rallentare lo sguardo, proponendo una nuova infrastruttura capace di approcciarsi alla villa e rafforzare il legame con il paesaggio ed il contesto. Il progetto di tesi da vita ad un impianto termale e museale all’interno del sito archeologico di Villa Adriana, al quale si può accedere già dal territorio circostante. L’infrastruttura si estende oltre i confini della villa, includendo la Buffer Zone, per creare un legame ulteriore tra paesaggio rurale e le rovine. La Villa Adriana ed il suo contesto rappresentano la classicità romana e riportano alla memoria tempi e luoghi di un passato lontano. Le terme romane sono un patrimonio culturale che è stato tramandato fino ai giorni nostri: uno spazio per l’igiene e la cura del corpo, ma anche un luogo d’incontro. II padiglione termale espositivo si confronta in modo diretto con le preesistenze della Villa assumendo caratteristiche di un edificio moderno basato sul rapporto tra acqua e bellezza. La struttura ha come obiettivo la valorizzazione della terrazza Ovest del Canopo includendo l’Antiquarium, dotandolo di un nuovo accesso indipendente, oggi negato, includendo un nuovo affaccio scenografico.La struttura è stata realizzata tenendo conto del contesto e delle rovine circostanti, rispettando sempre il principio di riconoscibilità e di utilizzo di tecniche moderne per la loro realizzazione, assicurando così il rispetto delle rovine stesse, ed interesserà sia la parte superiore dell’edificio, sia le strutture sottostante con le antiche aule che saranno adibite a vasche termali. L’obiettivo è infatti quello di dotare la villa non solo di un complesso per il benessere, ma anche di un luogo dedicato alla valorizzazione del sito archeologico. Cosi, il progetto di tesi esprime l'architettura contemporanea reinventando le terme romane nascoste tra gli alberi, creando una connessione pura con l’ambiente, creando un legame tra benessere e passato.
